<p>Earlier today at Archbishop Spalding, there was a three-team scrimmage between the Cavs, Parkville and Southern. Below are evaluations of some players who stood out.</p> <p><em><span style="font-size: 8pt;">*Note: Villanova commit Cam Whitmore didn’t play for Spalding. Southern was missing a few key players and as a result, struggled going against two very good programs in Parkville and Spalding.</span></em></p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/Nick-Jones-2.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1335714" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/Nick-Jones-2-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Dorian ’Nick’ Jones | 6’1 | Parkville ‘22</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Has the tools to be a volume scorer, but is always looking to make the extra pass or look off the defense in order to open up another teammate. Athletic finishes in the open floor, three’s off the bounce and smooth drives in small lanes round up the fashion that Jones displaying his scoring ability today. In the three quarters played against Spaldin</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">g, he accounted for 16 points. Jones will easily be a top guard in Baltimore County and in the Baltimore Metro area as a whole among public schools.</span></p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/Sinere-Barfield.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1335715" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/Sinere-Barfield-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1127304" first="Sincere" last="Barfield"] | 5’11 | Parkville ‘24</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Barfield was extra aggressive today in looking for his scoring opportunities. His blend of physical and athletic traits make up for his lack of size. He knows how to get his shots off against taller defenders and bullied smaller defenders on his drives to the rim. Barfield cashed in on multiple catch-and-shoot three’s, made a handful of fadeaway jumpers in the mid-range look routine and had a number of strong takes to the bucket.</span></p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/Kam-Wylie.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1335716" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/Kam-Wylie-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Kam Wylie | 6’6 | Parkville ‘24</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Still very much a raw prospect, but comes with the size, motor and competitiveness to project as a really intriguing prospect. Willing rebounder. Tries to alter any shot in the paint and avoids fouling. Runs the floor with regularity and can finish around the rim. Getting better embracing contact. He even hit a three in the corner, which is a part of his game he doesn’t get to show often, but will occasionally knock one down. Wylie was impressive with his timing and determination as a shot-blocker.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Emezi Egeonu | 6’6 | Parkville ‘22</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Active rebounder who quickly locates guard for outlets to spark immediate transition opportunities. Runs the floor regularly and scores with soft touch around the rim. Good footwork on catches in the paint and can also face-up and knock down 15-to-17 footers with space. Egeonu was a force as a shot-blocker in the scrimmage against Spalding.</span></p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/Jadyn-Williams.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1335717" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/Jadyn-Williams-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="904683" first="Jadyn" last="Williams"] | 6’0 | Parkville ‘22</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Williams seems to have a good grasp on his role for this Parkville team. He’s a constant presence as an on-ball defender and forces the ball-handler to turn a few times before crossing half court. Offensively, he uses the defense’s attention being centered on Barfield and Jones to spot up around the perimeter. He’s a capable shooter from three off the catch, but also knows how to get to his spots in the mid-range area and convert at a decent rate. </span></p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/02/Jordan-Pennick.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1134511" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/02/Jordan-Pennick-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="954640" first="Jordan" last="Pennick"] | 6’1 | Spalding ‘22</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Pennick had a productive day shooting the ball. He has a quick first step, which forces his defender to prepare for a rip-and-go, but today he’d utilize his jab step, get his feet back under his base and rise up for three’s. He was active in the passing lanes, manufactured deflection and turned them into quick points in the open floor.</span></p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/RJ-Newton.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1335720" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/RJ-Newton-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1127303" first="RJ" last="Newton"] | 6’6 | Spalding ‘24</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Newton had a handful of nice jumpers both off the catch and working off of 1-to-2 dribbles in the mid-range. He was active crashing the glass on both ends and was responsible for creating second chance opportunities on a number of occassions. He’s equipped with good length and athleticism that should develop into another versatile weapon for head coach Josh Pratt.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1198795" first="CJ" last="Scott"] | 6’5 | Spalding ’22</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Today was one of the best performances I have seen from Scott since he entered high school. Without Whitmore, there was a need for playmaking, rebounding and scoring. Scott checked all the boxes mentioned and provided energy in many different ways. He had a bunch of strong drives to the rim through traffic where he finished in above the rim fashion. It’s no secret that when Scott approaches the game like he did today in the scrimmages, he can be one of the top prospects in the Baltimore Metro area.</span></p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/09/Tyheil-Peterson.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1282033" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/09/Tyheil-Peterson-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="904646" first="Tyheil" last="Peterson"] | 6’1 | Spalding ‘22</strong></span></p> <p>Peterson was steady throughout the two scrimmages today. He scored from all three levels and got to his spots with minimum dribbles. When matched up against guards of his size, Peterson finishes regularly through contact, did a nice job of attacking off the closeout and remained balanced on his mid-range jumpers.</p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/Johnny-Farley.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1335721" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/Johnny-Farley-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Johnny Farley | 6’1 | Spalding ’23</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Farley was a new find today and with senior guard [player_tooltip player_id="904660" first="Josh" last="Rivers"] out for Spalding, got significant minutes and looks today. He took advantage and proved himself as a shooter that can spread the floor both off the catch and coming off pin downs. </span></p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/Malik-Washinton.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1335722" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/11/Malik-Washinton-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Malik Washington | 6’5 | Spalding ’25</strong></span></p> <p>Washington will be one of the special freshmen in the MIAA/BCL this season as he showed today. His size and skill don’t come along often in freshmen and his experience as a quarterback for the football team brings a level of confidence and physicality that not many freshmen come with either. Washington had a couple of nice finishes at the rim, was active as a rebounder and got his hands on passes as an off-ball defender.</p>
