The Mountain State Conference has some of the best teams in the state and has one of the largest pools of prospects to choose from in the state. We are now on the final part of this list and will go through the 9-12 ranked players based on Prep Hoops current rankings. If you have not seen the first 2 parts of this series I would encourage you to go back and read those as well.

Prep Hoops currently has Castleberry ranked 9th in the conference and I have heard many great things about him. Unfortunately I did not get to see him play last season so I can’t give too much details on his skills other than what I have been told. The skills that I keep hearing is that he has a high basketball IQ and is a lengthy defender. He is listed as a SG but he could have the potential to move to PG since he sees the floor so well.

[player_tooltip player_id="977598" first="Taran" last="Fitzpatrick"] (2022) | 6-2 SF | George Washington

Taran is an insane athlete with great speed, acceleration, and vertical. His size more fits the mold of a SG at the collegiate level but he needs to improve his jump shot to be a lethal guard at the next level. He excels on defense and getting out on the break but he seems to be more focused on football at this stage in his career. Scouts will have to see what his plans are moving forward.

[player_tooltip player_id="977618" first="Ethan" last="Spolarich"] (2022) | 6-1 SG | Hurricane

Ethan is ranked up fairly high in Prep Hoops rankings for this class but he needs to do more this season. He only averaged 8 PPG last year and didn’t stand out to me in the games I watched. His offensive bag is extremely limited and he did not play well against some of the better teams in the conference. He is also a major baseball player and that might be where his collegiate playing career takes place.

[player_tooltip player_id="977622" first="Gunnell" last="Hickman"] (2022) | 6-2 SF | Huntington

Gunnel both looks and plays like a tank when on the court. He is a big strong kid who if he was just a few inches taller would have the potential to dominate inside. He still needs to improve his guard skills to play at a high level at the collegiate level as he is not tall enough to post up. If he does improve his guard play he could present matchup problems for opposing defenses with his immense strength.
