Scrimmage Week Pt III

<p>On Saturday PH was in the gym to view the scrimmage game against De La Salle and Archbishop Mitty. This article will mostly focus on the Monarchs players since we’ve seen the Spartans play recently. They did have a few players that stood out other than the ones we’ve written about a week ago. It was our first look at the defending CCS Open Champions.</p> <p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="946947" first="Aidan" last="Burke"] 6’3 SG of Mitty 2022</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Burke</strong> </em>will be one of the main contributors to a young but good team. He’s a calming influence on the court and looks ready to get more shots up for the Monarchs. He has good form and shoots in rhythm from 3. No wasted dribbles to get to his spots, he’s a strong driver who can handle contact, and will help on the boards. </p> <p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="950888" first="Jaiden" last="Paran"] 5’10 PG of Mitty 2023</strong></em></p> <p>The transfer is progressing nicely and will be a contributor. He can run the offense or play off the ball. He had several moments in the scrimmage that stood out. His ability to get into the paint gives him options to shoot or kick it out. He’ll hit 3’s on the perimeter, and use his vision and passing in transition. </p> <p><em><strong>Stephen Voorhees 6’5 Post of De La Salle 2022</strong></em></p> <p>He’s a big body, and moves around in the post okay, not super fast but uses his body, and foot work to have some effect. He had a couple good post moves in the paint for buckets. He set solid screens for shooters, he passes well from the high post. He has some strength to not get pushed around in the post on defense. </p> <p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="950938" first="Derek" last="Sangster"] 6’7 W/F of Mitty 2023</strong></em></p> <p>One of our top players in the PH rankings for the 2023 class. His shoulders are squaring and he’s bulking up a bit. In this scrimmage he spent time working in and around the post area early, before stepping out to the perimeter. He’s adjusting to the area. His length and ability to make jumpers in the paint over long stretched arms will help this team.</p> <p><em><strong>Isaiah Cabebe 5’8 G of Mitty 2022</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Cabebe</strong> </em>had a good showing at this scrimmage. He’s solid player who’ll work hard defending his man and helping in trapping situations. He made good decisions with ball, and produced a couple of nice floaters over long arms on the drive inside. </p> <p><em><strong>Evan Wells 6’5 W/F of De La Salle 2023</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Wells</strong></em> will be a solid contributor off the bench for the Spartans. He gives them depth, and a player with size who can come in and work for rebounds, and defend. He’s comfortable with the ball on the perimeter. He'll shoot 3's if open, he had a few drives to the bucket. He can operate in the post if needed.</p> <p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1114850" first="Eric" last="Brown"] 6’7 F of Mitty 2023</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Brown</strong> </em>made Varsity last year but didn’t play because of injury. He has good fundamentals. He can square up at the mid-post, and hit the short jumper from 10-12ft in, and will shoot a 3ptr if open. He’s a big body, still a bit rusty from time off, but he’ll be counted on to help defend in the post area, and to rebound on both ends.</p> <p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1124080" first="Tyler" last="Jones"] 6’2 CG of Mitty 2024</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Jones</strong> </em>is a smart player with good intensity, who’ll find a way to contribute to this team his first full year on the Varsity, not necessarily scoring. He can play both guard spots. He uses his dribble to get into the paint with a good jump stop to kick it out, or shoot.
