Salesian Prep Scrimmage

<p>This past weekend PH was in the gym for the Salesian Prep scrimmage against Bishop O’Dowd from Oakland CA. It was the first scrimmage game for both teams. There was a number of players that played well, for both teams including a couple of players in the Class of 2024 that will be on the PH Watch list when the season gets under way in early December. Bishop O’Dowd players wore practice jerseys with no numbers or names, so our focus in this article is on Salesian Prep.</p> <p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1269263" first="Chris" last="Sanders"] 6’6 Forward of Salesian Prep HS 2022</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Sanders</strong> </em>will help man the post for Salesian. He’s long, has good hops, and does a good job defending in the post, and getting out to the corner to change shots with his length. He passes and screens well from the high post. He’s a good court runner filling lanes for transition buckets, dunks or following up misses. He goes up strong inside, and works for rebounds on both ends.  </p> <p><em><strong>Evin Goodwin 6’2 G/F of Salesian Prep HS 2023</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Goodwin</strong> </em>has a nice build, with good upper body strength. He surprised us with the amount of effort, and determination he had going after rebounds at 6’2. Like all the players who get on the court at Salesian, <em><strong>Goodwin</strong> </em>is aggressive and gets after on the defensive side of the ball helping in trapping situations. He can bully his way on the drive to the basket, and use a screen to hit 3’s on occasion.</p> <p><em><strong>Amani Johnson 6’2 Guard of Salesian Prep HS 2024</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Johnson</strong> </em>plays a good all-around game. He’s a calm 2024 player who get the job done. He’s a good ball handler, solid passer, and makes good decisions with the ball. He had multiple strong drives going left into the paint deciding whether to finish or kick it out to an open shooter. We know he can hit shots from the 3-point line. He’s a good on ball defender out on the perimeter, and will take a charge. He’s a good rebounding guard.</p> <p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1314344" first="Zander" last="Jimenez"] 6’2 Guard of Salesian Prep HS 2024</strong></em></p> <p><em><strong>Jimenez</strong></em> has footspeed with quick hands. His activity on defense led to numerous turnovers, and steals resulting in lay ups, and dunks at the other end. He had good passes up the court,  he has good handles, and footspeed to get by defenders going to the basket. He slashes and cuts to the basket without the ball, and finishes well in the open court with good body control. He’s on Wright’s Watch list.</p> <p><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1140161" first="Alvin" last="Loving"] 6'2 G/F of Salesian Prep HS 2025</strong></em></p> <p>Being in the 2025 class <em><strong>Loving</strong> </em>has a good understanding of the game, and could be a contributor in his first season. He has a solid body still growing, and a decent set  of skills for his age. His body can handle the contact on drives, and the banging that goes on in the post for rebound, and points.
