Preseason 4A Player of the Year: 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="682279" first="Tamin" last="Lipsey"], Ames

The 4A POY race between Lipsey and CBAL’s [player_tooltip player_id="682266" first="Josh" last="Dix"] will be a blast to watch unfold all year, and it honestly could come down to Championship Friday night in the middle of March. We give the edge to the future Cyclone over the future Hawkeye, as Ames is opening the season as our #1 team in the class.

First Team

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="682279" first="Tamin" last="Lipsey"], Ames: 16.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.8 steals, 51.6 FG%, 37.9 3P%

A dynamic two-way lead guard, Lipsey is arguably the best on-ball defender in the state, using his combination of a big, physical frame, fantastic lateral quickness, and great hands to make life difficult for opposing ball handlers. He's also a gifted passer and three-level scorer who can dominate games even when he isn't scoring.

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="682266" first="Josh" last="Dix"], Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln: 19.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.5 steals, 1.3 blocks, 54.5 FG%, 37.8 3P%

The other major contender for POY honors in 4A this year is Dix, a future Hawkeye wing. The 6-5 do-it-all wing has a high basketball IQ, is a highly efficient three-level scorer, and blessed with great length that he uses to make a major impact on the defensive end of the floor, evidenced by his 3.8 "stocks" a game last season. He does everything well.

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1158261" first="Peter" last="Moe"], Iowa City West: 21.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 53.8 FG%, 38.9 3P%, 81.0 FT%

Moe burst onto the Iowa scene last year, going off for 41 points against City High in his Iowa debut. The move-in from Indianapolis, and son of former Hawkeye Jeff Moe, Peter is a 6-8 combo forward who can score inside and out at a highly efficient clip. He has excellent footwork and touch around the bucket, and a silky smooth stroke out to the arc. He's a springy athlete who looks to finish above the rim as often as possible, and he rebounds it well. He'll be the focal point of a Trojans team that should be much improved this year.

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="784982" first="Steven" last="Kramer"], Johnston: 13.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 54.0 FG%, 79.2 FT%

Arguably the breakout star of the 4A state tournament last year, Kramer is an athletic 6-5 wing who finishes above the rim in transition, looks to attack consistently in the halfcourt, and is improving his jumper. With his length and athleticism, he's a versatile defender and playmaker who has committed to play his college ball at South Dakota.

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="682265" first="Trey" last="Campbell"], Cedar Falls: 13.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 2.5 steals, 53.5 FG%, 38.6 3P%, 76.9 FT%

A lightning-quick lead guard with excellent length and court vision, Campbell was arguably the best player on a loaded Cedar Falls team last season. He's equally adept at scoring or facilitating, and he's a great defender both on-and-off the ball. He has really improved as a shooter, turning himself into a legitimate threat from the arc, and that just opens up the rest of his game, as he has the speed and ball-handling to blow by just about anyone at this level. He has committed to stay close to home, continuing the Cedar Falls-to-Northern Iowa pipeline.
