Here we’ll take a look at 5 more of the most outstanding prospects that played at the highest levels on this sensational weekend.
Nazar Mahmoud | Shooting Guard | Leander Rouse HS | C/o ’23
Highly recruited guard, Nazar Mahmoud showed off his upside as a high-level 3-and-D competitor throughout the entire weekend, in each drill as well as every game. Mahmoud’s release proved to be effortless from college range, Nazar showed a knack for knocking down shots over much bigger and longer opponents. Very competent when putting the ball on the floor and getting to his spots in the mid-range, making him a continuous threat to put points on the board. Great hands and anticipation defensively, he did an impressive job of timing blocks and deflecting the dribbler’s handle of the ball. Also, a good combination of height and build, Mahmoud utilized his size and body strength very effectively to defend guards as well as taller small forwards.
JJ Starling | Point Guard | La Lumiere School | C/o ’22
Nationally ranked, incredibly talented Indiana recruit, JJ Starling, did it all at a high level and carried his team in every statistical category, standing out as one of the best and most pure point guard prospects in the building. The 6-foot-4-inch ballplayer showed a remarkable skillset alongside well-polished mechanics with minor weaknesses to his game, Starling was by far one of the most complete players of them all, possessing every tool to be effective at the next level. Starling controlled every aspect of the game on both ends of the floor, his teammates consistently looked for him to make plays in the toughest moments of the game showing their trust and respect for what he brought to the table. This young man showed phenomenal leadership skills, a good spirit, he played with a will to win, and had a true passion for the game of basketball.
Trent Pierce | Small Forward | Tulsa Union HS | C/o ’23
The name Trent Pierce was buzzing through the gym by the end of the camp. Pierce caught everyone’s attention with the shooting clinic he put on display, just a flat-out unconscious sniper with great poise and confidence through the roof. This high-volume shooter maintained efficiency while displaying a true love for the three-ball. Very strong outside shooting prowess, Pierce showcased his college-ready range from beyond the arc as he scorched the hoop in the final game, walking up the floor and just pulling up deep, oftentimes hitting nothing but the bottom of the net. The 2023 forward was a big-time threat to knock down his quick trigger pull-up jumper from any spot on the floor, especially if he wasn’t accounted for the moment he crossed halfcourt. Trent Pierce made a lot of noise and showed everyone why he’s one of Oklahoma’s best sharpshooters.
Chauncey Gibson | Combo Guard | Dallas Kimball HS | C/o ’22
Kimball High School superstar guard Chauncey Gibson, played basketball like a game of chess, always anticipating the next move and staying a step two ahead of his opponent at all times, whether he was attacking or defending. Gibson always had his head on a swivel, being insanely alert, seeing the floor and all of his moving pieces, and directing teammates into successful situations. This 6-foot-6 floor general controlled the game and dictated the flow offensively, setting teammates up in the halfcourt as well as in transition. An unselfish playmaker with a knack for making timely passes while on the move, using his height and length as a strong advantage when scanning the floor and passing over the top the defenses, hitting teammates with pinpoint passes the moment they were open near the basket or open on the perimeter. When all else failed, Gibson broke defenders down with a variety of ball moves in isolation as well as out of the pick-and-roll before getting to his spots from deep or in the mid-range where he proved to be a pure shooter with excellent elevation off the dribble.
Austin Ball | Small Forward | Miller School of Albemarle | C/o ’23
Austin Ball blew me away with his high-flying dunk capabilities that allowed him to jump out of the gym. Each time Austin went up into the air, he displayed great body control, good hangtime, good finesse, and solid explosiveness combined with power. Austin Ball got off of the ground extremely effortlessly and impressed us all with rim rocking slam dunks.
