When glancing through the district assignments, District 14 was one that stood out to me. This Division 1 district has some very solid teams that have the potential to make some noise in the state tournament. It also has a lot of exciting individual athletes.

LOCATION

Coldwater

THE TEAMS

Battle Creek Central

Battle Creek Lakeview

Coldwater

Kalamazoo Central

Kalamazoo Loy Norrix

Richland Gull Lake

Last season, Coldwater won District 14 with an 87-55 victory over Battle Creek Central. They eventually lost 63-57 in the Regional Finals to a talented East Lansing squad. The addition of Kalamazoo Central and the returning talent on teams like Richland Gull Lake, Battle Creek Central, and Battle Creek Lakeview help make this a very interesting collection of talent and teams.

10 PLAYERS TO WATCH

[player_tooltip player_id="1212750" first="Jashaun" last="Boggerty"] (2023, SF, Battle Creek Lakeview)

Boggerty could have a real impact on this district. He has nice handles and can attack off the perimeter.

[player_tooltip player_id="863968" first="Thomas" last="Dillard IV"] (2022, SF, Kalamazoo Central)

Dillard is one of the best defenders in the state in my opinion. He’s the type of 2 way player that can lead a team to a title.

[player_tooltip player_id="863976" first="Brandon" last="Downs"] (2022, PG, Coldwater)

This elite shooter has expanded his game this summer. He’s on track for a huge senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id="863993" first="Ethan" last="Crabtree"] (2022, SG, Coldwater)

Crabtree is vastly underrated as a prospect. He constantly competes on both ends and can get buckets with the best of them.

[player_tooltip player_id="1300878" first="Haidyn" last="Garrison"] (2022, PF, Richland Gull Lake)

Garrison puts the power in power forward. He’ll be a double-double threat all season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1223494" first="Cedric" last="Huntley"] (2024, PG, Kalamazoo Loy Norrix)

Huntley will be fun to watch as the season rolls along. He’s a terrific all around athlete that can run the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="863965" first="Scott" last="Sims"] (PG, Kalamazoo Central)

Sims is an old school lead guard that plays with his head up and finds cutters to the rim. His handles and passing will be critical in this district.

[player_tooltip player_id="1211141" first="Evan" last="Sloan"] (2022, PF, Coldwater)

Sloan has underrated versatility. He will be a key to how far Coldwater advances.

[player_tooltip player_id="1077679" first="Hutch" last="Ward"] (2023, PF, Kalamazoo Central)

Ward is an intriguing post prospect. He can step out behind the arc and stretch the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="983527" first="Kylon" last="Wilson"] (2022, PG, Battle Creek Central)

Wilson can catch fire as a scorer. Central will look to him as a scorer this season.

PREDICTION

I’m going to predict Coldwater to win the district, but it won’t be easy. There should be a lot of close games throughout the field and each team will have to battle each round. I believe that the final will feature a strong matchup between Coldwater and Kalamazoo Central, with the winner having a very real possibility at a Regional Championship.
