This is my list of 2022 wings from across the state who I believe have a real chance to make a real difference for their teams. Expect them to begin to rise in ranks and start getting some attention from the next level! Be on the lookout for my other articles on the 2022, 2023 and 2024 athletes!

Aidan Patree 2022 Wing 6’2 McKinney North High School

Aidan is an aggressive wing who thrives at doing all of the little things right. Whether it was cutting hard to the rim in the half-court, sliding over to protect the rim and leaping with forwards, or showing off his elite athleticism while doing all of the dirty work. Patree was one of my favorite players to watch, he displayed high basketball IQ on both ends of the floor, reading opponents’ passes and creating opportunities for his own teammates. He is a great back-side defender who has no fear at jumping for every block. He also has great hands who have a knack for tying up the ball and swatting away shots at the rim. I would like to see continued development with his shot off the bounce, but he has all the tools to be successful at the next level already.

[player_tooltip player_id="958605" first="TJ" last="Johnson"]- 2022 Wing 6’6 Belton High School

TJ is an elite offensive weapon with the ability to shoot, handle the ball, and finish at the rim. He is truly skilled at utilizing his size and frame to his benefit when he goes up for layups and to battle on the boards. He loves contact and the ability to use his strength against other players to wear them down. He plays very hard on the floor and never gives up on rebounds on the glass, even on the last day of the tournament. He has a soft touch from the corner and wing and loves shooting his jumper when given a fraction of space. He loves showing off his deep NBA range ability, which opens up his game so much and allows him to become a four-level scorer forcing the defense to come out and contest him from a ridiculous range.

[player_tooltip player_id="1295875" first="Jordan" last="Weeks"] 2022 Wing 6’4 Burleson Centennial

Jordan has great length and finishes very well in the lane. He is a patient finisher with an array of moves to keep the defense off balance. I was blown away by his ability to control the flow of the offense with a live dribble. He does not get sped up by intense on ball defense and can manipulate defenses with his eyes and ball fakes. I would like to see him work on getting to his jumper off the bounce with more consistency.

[player_tooltip player_id="1295894" first="Jacob" last="Gaffney"] 2022 Wing 6’4 Montwood High School

Jacob is a large sharp shooting wing with all of the tools to translate to the next level as a 3 and d type wing or guard. His length and quick foot speed allow him to guard positions 2-4 with ease. With a live dribble he showed an ability to break down defenders and even create opportunities for his teammates. He is a good mover without the basketball, consistently moving and cutting to put pressure on the defense. I would like to see him work on getting into the midrange more and adding more moves into his post-game.

Seth Payne 2022 Wing 6’6 Clifton High School

Seth is a dynamic ball handler for his size, he is very comfortable with a live dribble and getting downhill. He is a very patient playmaker and shot taker, he does not get sped up into bad looks or opportunities in the half court. I was very impressed with his ability to control the game with the ball in his hands. You can tell he is working on developing his shot from all three levels, he is getting more comfortable with his shot off the catch and has an ability to stretch the floor and put pressure on the defense by getting to his spots

[player_tooltip player_id="1158300" first="Tyce" last="Gentry"] 2022 6’3 Wing Brock High School

Tyce is a sniper from three-point range with deep shooting ability. He has palpable confidence and is aggressive on both ends of the floor. He is great at getting to his spots in the midrange and beyond the arc. He has all the tools to become a high-level scorer at the next level. Without the basketball, he moves and flashes to open spaces within the half court offense. On the defensive end of the ball, he is an aware help defender who always knows when to trap the ball and pressure the ball handler.

Seth Payne 2022 Wing 6’6 Clifton High School

Seth is a dynamic ball handler for his size, he is very comfortable with a live dribble and getting downhill.
