On Saturday November 27, PH spent the day at the Fourteenth Annual Nor Cal Tip-Off Classic. The event is to showcase high school basketball in Northern California. There were eight games on the day. Each game there was a Player of the Game award to the player who we thought had the best performance of the game. PH had a slightly different take in two of the top performers chosen as Player of the Game

Game 1: Dougherty Valley Wildcats 92, Woodside Priory 59

Most Exciting Player:

[player_tooltip player_id="950790" first="Ryan" last="Beasley"] 5’11 2023 Guard was the top scorer of the event scoring 44pts in exciting fashion to get the day going. Beasley went deep into his bag to show the crowd what we can expect from the rising guard moving forward. He was 13-21 in FG, 15-18 at the FT, and dished out 7 assists with 5 rebounds.

Game 2: Clayton Valley Ugly Eagles 72, Lincoln Trojans 53

Best of the Unsigned 2022 at this event

[player_tooltip player_id="766845" first="Jeremiah" last="Dargan"] 6’5 2022 Guard. He was in mid season form in leading his team to a decisive victory. Dargan displayed an all around game as he scored from all different areas of the court. He maneuvered his way into the 10-12ft range where he repeatedly knocked down shots. 10-15 FG, 3-5 from 3-Ptr, 3-5 FT for 26pts, 5 rebounds.

Game 3: De La Salle Spartans 58, Elk Grove 47

New Kid on the Block:

Alec Blair 6’5 2025 Guard. Stepping into the starting rotation for now. Blair is a multi skilled 2025 big guard who displayed his talents on the big stage. The youngster will be considered for the top spot when the 2025 Rankings come out for this group. We haven’t seen all the 2025’s in this early season but Blair’s making a push for the top spot. 6-13FG, 1-3 on 3-Ptr, 3-4 FT, 8 rebounds for 16pts.

Game 4: Inderkum Tigers 80, Bishop O’Dowd 54

He’s on the Watch List:

Isaiah Chandavong 6’4 2023 Guard blends in nicely with this deep and talented team from the Sacramento Area. He’s a big guard, kind of long, and moves well on the court. He takes care of the ball, and will help in scoring as well as on defense. He had success driving and finishing in half-court and transition. 7-13FG, 4 assists, 4 steals, 1 block for 16pts.

Game 5: Grant Union Pacers 61, Archbishop Riordan 50

Most Improved:

[player_tooltip player_id="766854" first="Jayson" last="Mathews"] 5’10 2022 Point guard has made steady improvement at the point guard position. He’s learned over the years, and has gotten better each season and now it’s showing. There’s always work to do. At this event he’s showed us he’s up for the challenge. He’ll be playing at Bethune-Cookman. 5-8FG, 2-2 FT, 4 rebounds, 2 steals for 12pts.

Game 6: Oakland Tech Bulldogs 71, Vanden Vikings 67

New Comer:

[player_tooltip player_id="1115067" first="Omar" last="Staples Jr"] 6’4 2023 Guard/Forward played a big role in helping his team to an early season win. At 6’4 he was productive inside and out. For a big body he has good balance to avoid charges, finished in transition. He made key buckets in the paint down the stretch. He has the strength to defend in the post. He’s required to rebound for this team. 7-13FG, 6 rebounds, for 14pts.

Game 7: Modesto Christian 87, San Joaquin Memorial, Fresno CA. 71

Most College Ready:

Joseph Jojo Hunter 6’5 Guard/Forward, Fresno State commit. He was on the losing side of the game. Usually the POG goes to the player on the winning team. Here’s where we differ from others. Modesto Christian was the better team, with two or more DI players. Hunter was the best player in the gym, showing all who observed, that he is game ready for the college level. The ability to make shots with the degree of difficulty was made to look routine. 10-17FG, 4-8 from 3-Ptr, 6-6 FT, 4 rebounds, 2 assist, 1block,1 steal for 30 pts.

Game 8: Campolindo Cougars 50, Dublin Gaels 42

Stock Riser:

[player_tooltip player_id="1336142" first="Shane" last="O’ Reilly"] 6’3 2023 Guard. He opened some eye with his play. He’s no longer a player we haven’t seen much of. We’ve seen him play a few times recently. He’s a good player who’s stock will continue to rise if he continues to be productive with his play on the court. He was good on the catch and shoot from 3, he has good dribble drives into the paint for jumpers. Efficient shooting the ball, 7-9FG, 2-3 from 3-Ptr, 2-2FT, 3 rebounds, for 18 points with key buckets throughout the game.
