As we move closer to a season here in NorCal. PH will take a look at the top PG’s in the class of 2023. This group has been identified as the top point guards, but with their high school team could play either guard position.

[player_tooltip player_id="950742" first="King" last="Wilhite"] 6’1 of Archbishop Riordan HS.

Wilhite will have every opportunity to showcase his complete skill package this season. The transfer of key players has him set to lead this team. He’s more than capable of producing buckets in different ways. What we’ll be looking for is balance. Can he lead a team with his PG’s skills, and take on more responsibility as a team leader, then as a scorer? He has multiple DI offers.

[player_tooltip player_id="950790" first="Ryan" last="Beasley"] 5’10 of Dougherty Valley HS.

Beasley a high IQ playmaker will probably take on more of a scoring role with this team that likes to play fast. He averaged 18.9 in 10 games during high school season. Beasley knows how to run an offense. He has the vision and passing skills. He’ll probably play off the ball where we’ll see his ability to score baskets using drives, pull-ups and 3’s. He has a knack for getting his hands on loose balls.

[player_tooltip player_id="1114843" first="Donovan" last="Cooks"] 6’0 of Dublin HS.

Cooks is set to run the show at Dublin. He’s made steady improvement running the point position. He has the patience needed. His vision, passing, and decision making will be included with his ability to create shots for himself. He’s a determined defender who’ll guard your best.

[player_tooltip player_id="950893" first="Kiku" last="Parker"] 5’10 of El Camino HS

Parker fits the combo guard role because of the guard oriented team he plays on. He did play point guard during the 3 live periods where he made progress at the position against quality competition. The muscular scoring guard is a problem for any defender trying to prevent him from getting to the rim. He’s a willing passer and will knock down short jumpers.

[player_tooltip player_id="951935" first="Ahmaree" last="McCullough"] 5’10 of Oakland Tech HS.

McCollough has all the tools to be an effective guard at the top. His tight handles, and aggressive style of play are there. He improved his patience, passing, and decision making while playing at a competitive level this summer which has brought balance to a guard who’s fearless on the attack, and one who can stick the mid-range jumper.

[player_tooltip player_id="951933" first="Brandon" last="Bento-Jackson"] 5’9 of Arcata HS.

Bento-Jackson’s ability to knock down shots from the 3-point line with some consistency probably puts him off the ball at the high school level. He makes good decisions with the ball. He’ll push hard in transition, find slashers and cutters in the half court, and he’ll handle ball pressure.

[player_tooltip player_id="951774" first="Jeremayah" last="Aquino"] 5’8 of Lincoln HS.

The pass first point guard has stepped up his playmaking skills and is an improved facilitator. He uses all his tools to find open teammates before setting out on his own to score buckets. At 5’8, he’s most effective playing fast, pushing and passing up court in transition or when he forces the defender to choose.

[player_tooltip player_id="951342" first="Benjamin" last="Jenkins"] 6’0 of Prolific Prep

He surprised a few transferring to Prep. The energetic guard is most effective pushing the ball in transition. He’ll have to slow down a bit when facilitating Prep’s offense. His ball handling and playmaking skills should improve playing with this group.

[player_tooltip player_id="950888" first="Jaiden" last="Paran"] 6’0 of Archbishop Mitty HS.

Paran, a transfer, didn’t play high school ball last season. He’s is in a spot where he’ll have to prove he can run the show at one of the top programs in NorCal (Mitty). He has the tools to be a playmaker, but he has to show it. When and if he makes that adjustment we’ll see a quality guard at the position.

[player_tooltip player_id="951934" first="Kaleb" last="Allison"] 6’1 of Pinole Valley HS.

All indications are Allison is ready for a breakout season leading Pinole Valley a team expected to garner some attention with the group they put on the court this season. The athletic point guard is quick with quality handles and passing skills. He has good bounce attacking the rim, and looks to challenge bigs on the way.
