The 250 Expo KC brought together some of the best players across Kansas and Missouri, giving them a chance to keep their skills sharp for the upcoming season.

One-day jamborees like the Expo don’t always engender a lot of good defense. But these five guys took pride in their defense, and it showed (in alphabetical order):

[player_tooltip player_id="1195624" first="Marcus" last="Beck"], Team 6, 6-foot-4 forward, 2022, Nemaha Central:

Beck is a long, athletic veteran who works hard on the defensive end. He has quickness and great reach, which allows him to defend in the paint and all the way out to the arc.

[player_tooltip player_id="1300793" first="Trent" last="Duffey"], Team 3, 6-foot-2 guard, 2022, Hayden:

Duffey has been around for several years and has seen a lot. So he’s not intimidated or unaware of what it takes to defend the high-quality offensive players at the Expo. He’s a tough and mature athlete who takes pride in his defense.

[player_tooltip player_id="1300858" first="Carter" last="Lutz"], Team 7, 6-foot-4 forward, 2022, Nemaha Central (pictured):

Like Beck, Lutz is a long and athletic forward who really put out a lot of effort Sunday. He ran the floor hard to make sure he was in the mix in transition, and he put his body on the line to stop the aggressive offensive talent at the event. Lutz jumps well and moves his feet well for positioning.

[player_tooltip player_id="946270" first="Trent" last="Stimac"], Team 7, 6-foot-2 guard, 2022, Bonner Springs:

Based on his work Sunday, Stimac deserves to be listed on about half a dozen of these ‘superlatives lists.’ Best Scorer, Most Versatile, Energy Bringer, Best Athlete…he fits in each. But among the many things he did, he defended at an elite level. He helped off, created steals, chased down drivers, was strong in the paint. Basically, Stimac did everything.

[player_tooltip player_id="1300850" first="Alex" last="Watts"], Team 8, 6-foot guard, 2022, Junction City:

A lot of players impressed at the Expo. But Watts stood out for his effort and competitiveness. He was always on the attack, always getting his hands on the ball. He was first on the floor for loose balls, and showed some surprising athleticism. Watts did a lot of good things to impress, but his defensive tenacity deserves special mention.
