Region 5-A Preview

<p>Prep Hoops continues its coverage around the Palmetto State with its region previews. Lets head over to the Pee Dee area of the Palmetto State with Region 5-A. Who will beat the Red Raiders in this region ? </p> <p><em><strong>Prep Hoops Predictions:</strong></em> </p> <p>1.Hannah-Pamplico HS - The Red Raiders will rely on [player_tooltip player_id="930643" first="<strong>Cyrus" last="Ellison</strong>"] here to take home the region championship. </p> <p>2.Johnsonville HS - Can the Golden Flashes be a contender under longtime Head Coach Harris Avant ? </p> <p>3.Green Sea-Floyds HS - The Trojans are currently in a battle on the football field. Two baseball recruits will lead the hoop team this season.</p> <p>4.Lake View HS - The Wild Gators will be in the mix for a playoff spot behind <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1076822" first="DJ" last="Bethea"]</strong>. </p> <p>5.Lamar HS - The Silver Foxes were winless last year at (0-8). </p> <p>6.Timmonsville HS - The Whirlwinds look to be closing the doors after this season. </p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/08/97D9939C-8860-43E2-8827-6ADB27F64B4D.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1027580" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/08/97D9939C-8860-43E2-8827-6ADB27F64B4D-300x225.jpeg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="930643" first="Cyrus" last="Ellison"] (2022) - Hannah-Pamplico HS - Prep Hoops Preseason Region Player of the Year </strong></p> <p>Ellison is the best athlete in the region and player. Cyrus will more than likely go the football route as he spent a lot of the summer attending respected college camps. Ellison is a wide receiver with a great motor for the Red Raiders. Cyrus averaged 16.4 ppg last season in a shortened season last year. Cyrus plays the game with a HIGH MOTOR and really does a great job rebounding the ball on both ends of the floor. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1076821" first="Jace" last="Avant"] (2022) - Johnsonville HS (pictured on front)</strong></p> <p>Avant has been a fixture here since the 9th grade. Jace is best playing off the ball and really has decent range on his shot from behind the three point line at times. Thorndyke played last season at Dillon Christian after playing across the border before that at Fairmont HS. Colby has already committed to play baseball at East Carolina University after leaving Green Sea-Floyds. This season he’s tearing it up on the football field with 74 carries - 668 yards and 11 touchdowns.</p> <p>Thorndyke a bruising young man on the hardwood helped the Dillon Christian Wildcats get to the SCISA Class 2A State Championship before falling to Spartanburg Christian. </p> <p><strong>Dalton Stroud (2022) - Green Sea-Floyds HS </strong></p> <p>Stroud just like Thorndyke is already off the board for next season. Stroud a shooting guard also excels on the baseball diamond. Dalton will head off to Lander University next fall to play baseball. Stroud averaged  12.1 ppg and 6/8 rebounds last season for the Trojans. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1076822" first="DJ" last="Bethea"] (2022) - Lake View HS </strong></p> <p>Bethea has been around for the Wild Gators since I first saw him play as a 8th grader. DJ is currently playing Quarterback for the Wild Gators football team. Bethea has thrown for close to 1,500 passing yards this season after 8 games for the Wild Gators. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="922027" first="Delontae" last="Martin"] (2023) - Lamar HS </strong></p> <p>Martin is the main cog for the Silver Foxes on the hardwood. Travis plays football for the Golden Flashes in the fall and in the post during the basketball season. Wilson averaged 6.9 ppg last season as a freshman.</p>
