We can all assume Calvary Christian Academy will be a top team in the area. The Eagles have multiple D-1 prospects and are seeking national prominence. I think the consensus is they will have multiple players on postseason superlative lists.

After them, which prospects could emerge to grab county player of the year honors? I’m making these picks with an imaginative idea based on odds.

Let’s take a look...

[player_tooltip player_id="812637" first="Greg" last="Spate"] - Coral Springs

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="812637" first="Greg" last="Spate"] has all the tools for a big season. While listed as a point guard, the 6-foot-6 Spate can play and defend multiple positions on the floor. The former Northeast product averaged over 20 points per game this summer. As a sophomore with the Colts, Spate averaged 14 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Spate can score with his length and athleticism or hit from the perimeter. In my view, his shooting expertise has increased. He recently picked up offers from Chicago State and NJIT.

[player_tooltip player_id="814984" first="Rickey" last="Ballard"] - Westminster Academy

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="814984" first="Rickey" last="Ballard"] could be the transfer piece that fuels Westminster Academy. The former Sagemont star is an athletic wing with a high motor. At 6-foot-7, there is very little Ballard can’t do. He can score in the halfcourt or transition with his agility and length. Furthermore, his energy to slash his way to the rim is continuous. Ballard has a good handle to execute in these situations. He's equally as tough around the glass and will fight in the paint. He holds offers from Chicago State and Old Dominion.

[player_tooltip player_id="955771" first="Andrew" last="Akuchie"] - St. Thomas Aquinas

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="955771" first="Andrew" last="Akuchie"] has his recruitment behind him and should be fully focused on his senior season. The Rice commit has improved offensively over the years to become a dominant player in the county. Specifically, I like his improvement as a shooter to the 3-point line. At 6-foot-9, his wingspan and athleticism is a nightmare to defend against.

[player_tooltip player_id="1060261" first="Guilherme" last="Tesch"] - North Broward Prep

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="1060261" first="Guilherme" last="Tesch"] is another player that is a nightmare to game plan for. The 6-foot-8 forward has long arms and a big frame. Moreover, I think he has a college ready build at this point. Tesch uses his length and size to create separation on his shot. Furthermore, he’s equally as tough on the defensive end with these qualities. He averaged nearly 13 points and over six rebounds per game as a junior. Tesch should only improve with more athleticism as his frame is D-1 worthy.

[player_tooltip player_id="829449" first="Gabriel" last="Kincy"] - Dillard

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="829449" first="Gabriel" last="Kincy"] is a huge kid that is just beginning to scratch the surface. The 6-foot-8 Kincy continues to improve his handle to play as a guard/forward type. His frame (220+ pounds) makes him an intriguing player. He has shown a knack to hit big shots from the outside in clutch situations. He holds offers from North Texas, VCU, North Carolina A&T and Texas Southern.
