Continue ReadingThe GCL will look a little different in 2021-22 with Purcell Marian and Roger Bacon leaving the conference. One thing is for sire though, the league is still loaded with talent. In this piece, I will recap some of the top players coming back and to watch this upcoming year.
Jacob Conner Jacob Conner 6'7" | PF Alter | 2022 State OH (Alter) 2022 6-foot-7 PF
Conner is one of the more unselfish players you’ll find in Dayton. Committed to Marshall, Conner had multiple D1s that had offered him before choosing the Thundering Herd. Conner handles the basketball well and shows confidence playing on the perimeter. Able to score from multiple levels, Conner could compete for Player of the Year in the GCL.
Aj Leen Aj Leen 6'2" | SF Kettering Alter | 2023 State OH (Alter) 2023 6-foot-2 SF
Leen is a jack-of-all-trades for the Knights. The junior wing plays with a ton of hustle and will be impactful on both ends of the floor. Offensively can put the ball on the floor and get by defenders. Confident in the midrange game as well. Defensively will defend multiple positions and control the glass. Hard working individual.
Sean McKitrick (Carroll) 2023 6-foot-2 SG
McKitrick was only one of two prospects returning after being 1st Team all-GCL last year. The sharpshooter is coming off a great showing with Dayton Elite this Summer. McKitrick has good length for a guard, good court awareness, and a nice shooting touch. With the Patriots losing so many talented players to graduation, Sean has a chance to really see his numbers rise.
Jonathan Powell Jonathan Powell 6'5" | SG Centerville | 2024 State #164 Nation OH (C-J)
Powell really came alive for the Eagles as a freshman and showed he has tremendous potential with C-J. The sophomore is going to be a focal point this upcoming season with his shooting touch, athleticism, and play making. Powell was a major contributor with All-Ohio Red this Summer and is going to carry over this Winter.
Anthony Ruffalo (Alter)
Ruffalo is what you look for in a Point Guard. The junior has great court vision, passing ability, and shooting touch. Ruffalo is part of a junior trio with himself, Aj Leen Aj Leen 6'2" | SF Kettering Alter | 2023 State OH , and Gavin Geisel Gavin Geisel 6'0" | SG Alter | 2023 State OH that gives Alter a legitimate chance to compete this upcoming season.
