Who are some incoming freshmen to keep an eye on during the upcoming season? Here is a closer look at five players who are worth keeping on your radar moving forward.

[player_tooltip player_id="1273545" first="Jacob" last="Amonett"] | 6’0" PG | Pickett County

The gene pool is overflowing with talent and drive. Jacob will play a smaller role this winter alongside his twin older brothers: [player_tooltip player_id="1018123" first="Will" last="Amonett"], [player_tooltip player_id="1018117" first="Zach" last="Amonett"]. Still, Jacob and his brothers can expect to return to the State Tournament. They are even better prepared than they were in 2020-2021. Though he can shoot the basketball, Jacob will have to figure a way to contribute with limited touches this season. Historically, young brothers improve faster than their peers because they have an in-house measuring stick. Motivation is not hard to find when you lose everyday to your family.

[player_tooltip player_id="1259395" first="King" last="Keary"] | 6’0" PG | Goodpasture

Blazing speed. King is a player with a strong reputation throughout Nashville, largely because he teamed with [player_tooltip player_id="992516" first="Isaiah" last="West"] and thrived within the NYBA program at a young age. Keary found some minutes with State Champion Goodpasture last season and that will only help him develop as a lead guard. Keary’s future was always going to be that of a point guard simply because of his height. With [player_tooltip player_id="537290" first="PJ" last="Smith"] on to college, Keary can now assume that role and undoubtedly thrive with elite change of direction and uncommon maturity.

[player_tooltip player_id="1211987" first="Cade" last="Capps"] | 6’4" SG | Stone Memorial

Exceptional shooter. Despite standing 6-foot-4, Capps is able to already create his own shot off the dribble. You just do not know where Capps is going to pull. His ability to score on all three levels is incredible. Capps is a gym rat who makes friends easily with his teammates. He is productive and a little quiet with new teams. There will be countless teams requesting his services in the coming 2022. Preps with Stone Memorial. He will instantly be the leading scorer.

[player_tooltip player_id="1273564" first="Myles" last="Sidney"] | 6’5" SG | Lipscomb Academy

[player_tooltip player_id="1273564" first="Myles" last="Sidney"] is wildly athletic with excellent height for his ultimate position. Do not expect him to start this season for a talented LA team, but there is D1 talent here.

[player_tooltip player_id="1273551" first="Deondrea" last="Lindsey"] | 6’7" PF | Knoxville Catholic

It continues to be an embarrassment of riches at Knoxville Catholic. Does the program with B.J. Edwards and [player_tooltip player_id="992517" first="Blue" last="Cain"] need more talent? Opposition would say, ’No way!’ Lindsey ran with BMaze 15u this summer. His speed up and down the court lagged behind his teammates, but realize he was 6 inches taller than most and a year younger with a still-developing body. You have to be patient with young bigs and patience with the game of Deondrea is going to pay off huge in the coming years.
