Looking ahead to the 2021-22 season, Prep Hoops Wisconsin breaks down the race in the North Shore Conference...

PROJECTED STANDINGS

1. Homestead

2. Whitefish Bay

3. Nicolet

4. Grafton

5. West Bend East

6. West Bend West

7. Slinger

8. Cedarburg

9. Port Washington

10. Hartford

THE FAVORITE -- Homestead

The Highlanders were 9-9 in North Shore play last season, but return more than any other team...by far. Homestead gets four of their top five scorers back and that doesn’t include promising big man [player_tooltip player_id="1012674" first="Chris" last="Djurasovic"] (7.6 ppg). Senior guard Adam Riese (13.0 ppg) is the lone returning first or second team All-Conference performer. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="1142121" first="Tim" last="Franks"] (11.3 ppg) should also build off an impressive freshman campaign.

TOP CONTENDER -- Whitefish Bay

Tough to think the Blue Dukes can be as good as last season’s 16-2 squad that won a share of the North Shore. Whitefish Bay returns a solid 1-2 punch in the backcourt in senior Ryan Carew (9.0 ppg) and [player_tooltip player_id="1261417" first="Kamarion" last="Ivory"] (6.4 ppg).

DARK HORSE -- Nicolet

The Knights were 14-4 in league play a year ago, but will have to carry on without do-it-all guard [player_tooltip player_id="929231" first="Kobe" last="Johnson"], now at USC. Nicolet does have some good pieces still available, including senior forward [player_tooltip player_id="865841" first="Donovan" last="Sparks"] (7.8 ppg) and high-upside junior wing [player_tooltip player_id="1041690" first="Miles" last="Nation"] (3.2 ppg). Sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id="1141639" first="Treshawn" last="Jones"] (2.1 ppg) should also take a step forward in 2021-22.

PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE

First Team

G Ryan Carew - Sr. (Whitefish Bay)

F [player_tooltip player_id="865841" first="Donovan" last="Sparks"] - Sr. (Nicolet)

PLAYER OF THE YEAR -- [player_tooltip player_id="1142121" first="Tim" last="Franks"]

Don’t think there’s a runaway choice as an upperclassman. Gotta go with the best player on the best team. Franks had an impressive freshman season, averaging 11.3 points per game. A lengthy 6-foot-5 wing that can score in a variety of ways, Franks is one of the toughest matchups in the league with his blend of size and skill.

BREAKOUT PLAYER -- [player_tooltip player_id="1261417" first="Kamarion" last="Ivory"]

Ivory had a very strong July. Whitefish Bay, who won a share of the league title last season, lost quite a bit and is in need of a couple of guys to step up. Ivory averaged 6.4 points per game as a junior and had three double-figure scoring efforts in 12 games.

SURPRISE PLAYER -- [player_tooltip player_id="1254286" first="Kenyon" last="Davis"]

Davis appeared in just four games as a sophomore for the Pirates, averaging 1.2 ppg. Over the summer, Davis had a very positive effect on his AAU team as a point guard who can get downhill and is a tough finisher at the rim. Port has a lot returning from last season, but it’s a group that went 0-18 in league play.
