The 2022 Rankings All-Star Team is a collection of all the players ranked by their position. Based on their positional rankings, we came up with the following teams:

First team: PG [player_tooltip player_id="891899" first="Mozae" last="Downing-Rivers"], CG [player_tooltip player_id="891900" first="Fontaine" last="Williams"], SG [player_tooltip player_id="952433" first="Jordan" last="Brown"], SF [player_tooltip player_id="787626" first="Mark" last="Mitchell"], PF [player_tooltip player_id="891906" first="Trey" last="Moala"], and C [player_tooltip player_id="1075931" first="Jace" last="Linenberger"].

Second team: PG [player_tooltip player_id="889463" first="Max" last="Alexander"], CG [player_tooltip player_id="891909" first="Christian" last="Bowen-Webb"], SG [player_tooltip player_id="946262" first="Seth" last="Madron"], SF [player_tooltip player_id="787613" first="Gradey" last="Dick"], PF [player_tooltip player_id="1075927" first="Henry" last="Thengvall"], and C [player_tooltip player_id="1075929" first="Keaton" last="Williams"].

Third team: PG [player_tooltip player_id="891903" first="Cooper" last="Jackson"], CG [player_tooltip player_id="891917" first="Zaid" last="Dajani"], SG [player_tooltip player_id="1131273" first="Kernan" last="Bundy"], SF [player_tooltip player_id="891898" first="Aidan" last="Shaw"], PF [player_tooltip player_id="1076261" first="Landon" last="Wagler"], C [player_tooltip player_id="1076411" first="Fred" last="Criqui"].

Recognizing that many of our ranked players could play several different positions (and some of the top players defy a position category), this is by no means a grouping of the best players into teams. But just for fun, we made teams of the players based off their rankings.

Now, as you will notice, just one of the players above ([player_tooltip player_id="1076411" first="Fred" last="Criqui"], St. Marys) comes from a school in the 3A classification or smaller.

So to give the small school guys their due, here’s the 2022 Small School First Team, the top player at each of our six positional classifications from a 1A, 2A or 3A school (listed by position, name, state ranking/positional ranking, size and high school):

Small School First Team:

Point Guard: [player_tooltip player_id="1076403" first="Brett" last="Sarwinski"], #30/#7, 5-foot-10, Galena HS (3A):

Sarwinski scores, distributes and defends and leads at an elite level. He had his team on the doorstep of a state championship a year ago, and figures to be back. He was big in big games and does what it takes. He averaged 17.8 points as a junior, en route to first-team 3A honors.

Combo Guard: [player_tooltip player_id="891932" first="Cason" last="Richardson"] #23/#8, 6-foot-1 Hesston HS (3A):

Richardson is the highest rated player in the state from a small school. He led his Hesston team to a win over Sarwinski’s Galena team, putting in 16 after ripping TMP for 36 in the semifinal. He does some of everything to make sure his team wins: 16 points, 7 boards, 4 assists, 57% from the field, 34% from deep, and 75% from the line.

Shooting Guard: [player_tooltip player_id="1075928" first="Harrison" last="Voth"], #32/#4, 6-foot-1 Cheney HS (3A):

Fall means football season for Voth, a high-level quarterback. But Voth is also the fourth-rated shooting guard in the class, with emphasis on the ‘shooting.’ He’s a knock-down shooter from deep and an athletic all-around talent. He earned honorable mention 3A last year and will be one of the best 3A guards this year.

Small Forward: [player_tooltip player_id="1076412" first="Brady" last="Klotz"], #55/#13, 6-foot-4, Royal Valley HS (3A) (pictured):

Klotz is big and versatile. He can dominate in the lane, and impact the game from the perimeter, particularly with his smooth stroke. As part of a really talented starting five for Royal Valley last year, Klotz produced a reliable 12.9 points and 8.3 rebounds. Look for those numbers to balloon quite a bit his senior year. He really made waves this summer with SSA Hoops Elite.

Power Forward: [player_tooltip player_id="1139918" first="Charlie" last="Russell"], #57/#6, 6-foot-4, Wakeeney-Trego HS (2A):

The only non-3A player on this team, Russell impressed by doing great work for against big-school competition with Western Kansas Elite. That got him noticed, but his high school numbers demonstrate how effective he is. He is productive across the board: 15.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.4 steals as a junior.

Center: [player_tooltip player_id="1076411" first="Fred" last="Criqui"], #50/#3, 6-foot-7, St. Marys HS (3A):

As was mentioned above, Criqui happens to be the only small school player who ranked in the top three at any position. So Criqui gets this spot as well as a spot on the all-state third team. Criqui has really attracted attention for his work on the club circuit this summer and is poised for a big senior year with lots of talented guards to work with at St. Marys.
