August 30th-31st Justin Vargas and I put on the 5th annual Southwest Basketball Camp at the beautiful Phhacility in Phx, AZ.

66 players from Arizona and Texas battled it out. 8 teams with 8-9 players each.

Each team played 5 games with a possible All-Star game. The All-Star games lived up to the hype with many coaches walking away impressed with what they saw. The younger talent was pretty obvious.

We take a look at each teams players.

Here was Team WASHINGTON:

Top-20 All-Star game

[player_tooltip player_id="1030976" first="Anthony" last="Parise"] Desert Mountain (Pictured)

A lefty sniper from 3pt line. This guard has incredible range. He has the mid-range going and he is a sneaky good passer. He is a true floor spacer at the next level and he definitely found his niche. As I already mentioned it, Anthony's stock is going up!

Top-40 All-Star game

[player_tooltip player_id="1030973" first="Vincent" last="Parise"] Desert Mountain

The twin brother had a good camp as well. He scores it many ways. He has the mid-range jumper but he can drive it and score on finger rolls, layups in traffic or use the floater. He is more of a streaky 3pt shooter but a smart passer and plays hard on defense. His pull-up is his best weapon but he has improved getting downhill.

[player_tooltip player_id="1275430" first="Memphis" last="James"] Coconino

A newcomer for me is a physical wing who plays a smart game. He can hit the catch-3 and knows how to score it inside with his stronger frame. He gives good ball fakes and likes using the runner. He will take what the defense gives him. His IQ is very high with extra passes, talking on defense and playing the game like you should. He should have a big year in Flagstaff this season for the 4A Panthers.

Top-60 All-Star game

[player_tooltip player_id="1128443" first="Kameron" last="Bender"] Higley

An athletic defensive guard is very good getting downhill. He has a nice handle and a burst to get to the basket using a crossover to get himself to the cup for a layup. He is a little lean but has athleticism to throw it down and uses his length and lateral quicks to defend.

[player_tooltip player_id="1032372" first="Brandon" last="Napier"] Thatcher

A defensive pure PG is a tough competitor. He brings good physicality for a guard to defend and is a smart passer. He is a somewhat streaky shooter but can hit the catch-3 and he can hit tough shots in traffic.

[player_tooltip player_id="1277901" first="Keller" last="Thompson"] Desert Mountain

One other Wolves player plays physical inside. He has a nice touch and can hit the trail-3. He runs floor well and will bang inside plus score it around traffic. His catch-3 has improved to go along with his strength and toughness. He cna carve out space to score.

Savion Patton PG 5’10 2021 Todd Beamer/WA

An unsigned senor looking for a post grad team was very quick. The lefty has a nice burst of speed and can blow by his man and use the floater or lay it in. He showed nice activity on defense with his quickness laterally and good length.
