Ryse Up Fall Classic: Top Standouts Pt. 4

<p>After a year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Ryse Up Fall Classic was back this past weekend on Sept. 25 and 26. The event took place at two different locations: St John Bosco High School and St Monica High School. The event featured some of the top HS teams in the SoCal area. I was able to attend both days, and here’s a quick look at some additional top standouts.</p> <p><strong>1. Vincent Sampson - Loyola 2022</strong></p> <p>Sampson was a bit of an undersized forward, but that’s no matter. He plays much bigger than his size and is incredibly strong. He uses his strength to finish in the paint. He can power through the defense and he has good body control. He can play with his back to the basket or he can face up from the midpost area and make a quick move to the rim. Does a good job drawing contact and getting to the free throw line.</p> <p><strong>2. [player_tooltip player_id="970272" first="Landon" last="Lewis"] - Harvard Westlake 2022</strong></p> <p>A Brown commit, Lewis is a handful in the paint. He’s a good rebounder especially on the offensive glass keeping the ball alive and gaining extra possessions. Defensively, he is versatile in that he can stick with wings and contest jumpers or drop down and guard the paint. He moves well off ball particularly sprinting out on the break. Sets good, hard screens. He can face up and knock down midrange jumpers.</p> <p><strong>3. [player_tooltip player_id="970270" first="Marqui" last="Worthy"] - Veritas 2023</strong></p> <p>Worthy is tough guard with great court vision. He did a solid job running the offense and making some great passes in halfcourt sets. He also did well running the break and hitting open teammates. He can get into the lane and when he does he’s a pass first guard. He can score if need be as well. Uses his body and his strength to finish inside over the defense.</p> <p><strong>4. Trent Perry - Harvard Westlake 2024</strong></p> <p>Perry shared the backcourt with senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id="970273" first="Dahnte" last="Russell"], but when Russell was on the bench, Perry showed that he could play a little of the one as well. For a young player, he played a very under control and composed game. He’s comfortable as the off guard as well where he shoots consistently from three-point range and shoot off the dribble, or get into the paint and finish.</p>
