With the 2028 class officially entering middle school, it is now time for them to be featured on Prep Hoops Next! One of the top guards I saw from the 2028 class this summer was Enzo Lee from Florida. Lee has already made a name for himself on a national level and has demonstrated that he is one of the top guys to look out for from the 2028 class. Lee has exceptional lead guard skills for his age and an impressive handle that you don't see a lot of 6th graders play with. We were able to catch up with his dad, Mike Lee, who is his primary trainer and coach to talk more about his game and what separates him from others in the 2028 class... "I think the two main things that help separate him from others are his IQ and shooting ability. I have seen a lot of kids handle the ball really well at that age group but the decision making, shooting and be able to be a good teammate has really helped him." As stated in the beginning, the first thing that really stood out to me about Lee's game is his handle and that is something Mike has been working on with Enzo for quite some time now. “We have been training and working on coordination stuff since he was four years old. We have been doing a lot of ball handling and have just continued to do different workouts and we work on it a lot.” Now that Lee has entered middle school, he will need to adjust to middle school basketball but because his dad has put him in age groups much older than Enzo's actual age, he is going to have a head start than most of his peers. “Playing up has helped him get used to the physicality and that is one reason why I have put him in an age group older than him a lot of times. Adjusting to the physicality and getting adjusted to a bigger ball is what I want him to get more experience with. Playing in older age groups has continued to help his IQ.” In the coming years, Enzo's growth is going to factor a lot about his future in basketball but no matter what, it is safe to say Enzo will be an elite guard in the 2028 class. “I think as he gets older you are going to see him really control games. How much he grows is obviously going to be playing a factor too. Right now he is playing a lot of the one and the two so depending on how much he grows, I see him being a guard no matter how big he gets", Mike Lee said. Only entering 6th grade, Enzo still has a lot of time before he will even enter a high school classroom but Mike is going to continue to help improve Enzo so the transition into high school basketball is an easy process for his son. “I am big on defense and high IQ. You see a lot of kids work on their handle and their shot but I am big on defense and decision making. I am going to need Enzo to continue to work on knocking down open shots and know when to take good shots. But one thing that is always going to keep him on the court is his ability to defend so defense and making shots will continue to help him get better.” Stay tuned for more from Prep Hoops Next!
