Lately, states like Texas have really been pushing for the best in the country when it comes to talent. Either way, there have been some hidden talent out in the Mountain West in places like Utah, Idaho, and Colorado.
With young guns like Isaac Davis (Idaho) pulling in multiple Division 1 offers as a 2024 and Isaiah Hartwell (Idaho) turning heads nationally as a 2025 with multiple Division 1 offers. Most notably 2022 Nationally ranked Collin Chandler (Utah) who was invited to the Top 100 camp a few months ago, the Mountain West is starting to get some hype. We now look to the 2026’s to carry that torch as the bar has been set high.
In the state of Utah, there is a talented group of 2026s that have been playing a national schedule for the past few years and as they continue to grow and develop as a group.
There is one player that has been creating a little bit of space between him and some of the other player in his class regionally. The name to know, is Luke West (Featured Photo above #30) who is currently 6’1 and growing as he has an older brother that is 6’7.
Luke has some elite guard skills that he has put on display against some tough competition. He can bring the ball up and create for his team or he can create enough space to get mid-range jumpers off as well as some long balls. Luke can get to the rim on straight-line drives but he also has some wiggle and shift that gets him to the basket as well.
While Luke is only an eighth-grader he has some seasoned skills to go along with a quality motor. Luke has the ability to attack the lead foot and keep defenders off balance and he also does a great job of not just casting jumpers, he is constantly looking for better shots. With elite vision he is able to make those tough pocket passes in the pick n’ roll. When Luke is off the ball he moves really well putting himself in positions to rebound and find open pockets against helping defenses and zones. Luke has a high IQ as he moves well on cuts and curls making the defense work.

This past weekend Luke lead his team to a 5-0 finish and championship in the Circle of Champions Tournament. In May he led his team to a 6-0 finish at the Vegas Elite Invitational.
Luke is next up when it comes to players coming out of the Mountain West. Also, keep an eye on this Hoops Elite team that has been playing very well together as they come to a city near you.
