After missing Day 2 of the Fall Showcase, I got to spend about 10 hours in the gym Sunday watching various HS and postgrad teams going at it. Here’s the first report from the final day of the event, our second group of standouts from the event.

Alan Kane, 6-2 2022 G, Balboa

Kane set the tone for his team scoring off the dribble and blowing by Torrey Pines’ guards seemingly at will in the 60-25 blowout win. He’s got jets and can finish through contact, but can also knock down spot-up threes and is a very good on-ball defender.

Daniel Ameyaw, 6-7 2022 F, Balboa

It was a collectively strong effort by Balboa in Sunday morning’s win over Torrey Pines, but Ameyaw’s effort on defense (post defense and helpside rim protection), his rim running and finishing all stood out for his team. He was part of an excellent platoon effort to corral Boston University commit [player_tooltip player_id="970252" first="Otto" last="Landrum"].

[player_tooltip player_id="972525" first="JQ" last="Strong"], 6-7 2022 F, Villa Park

Strong, a long, smooth three/four hybrid, could get what he wanted off the bounce and in the paint against Rancho Buena Vista, scoring 24 points and grabbing 9 rebounds in the process. At times, he settled for too many shots from the perimeter, but when he decided to take over the game, he did, helping his team turn an 8-point early second half deficit into a 17-point win.

[player_tooltip player_id="971239" first="Malachi" last="Murrell"], 6-5 2022 W, La Quinta

La Quinta was often times overwhelmed and undermanned this weekend, but that was through no fault of Murrell, who did everything in his power to keep his team competitive. He showed a vastly improved shot from the perimeter, and scored effectively in traffic through contact and over rim protection. At times, he looked like the best prospect in a gym full of high-level ones.

[player_tooltip player_id="994926" first="Angelo" last="Gil"], 6-1 2023 G, Mission Bay

Gil has been on a tear this fall, carving teams up both scoring it and making plays for his teammates. He has a quick first step and can get into the lane and finish (right-hand dominant finisher), and he has the court vision to make high-level passes after drawing double teams off the bounce. His toughness and vocal leadership are also strong points.
