I got to watch a lot of basketball this spring and summer, and there were a lot of players in New Mexico that stood out while playing in both local, and national tournaments! Summer is over, and with only a few fall events left the start of the high school basketball season is right around the corner. Offseason workouts are in full swing, and the preseason is only about 60 days away. Here is a breakdown of my top 10 posts and forwards in the Class of 2022.

C 6’11 [player_tooltip player_id="1076667" first="Isaiah" last="Carr"], Las Cruces: Carr is one of the best shot blockers in the southwest, and will be the best rim defender in the state once again! The 6’11 Grand Canyon University commit is ranked as a top 50 Center in the country by ESPN, and has been working on expanding his offensive game while putting on some weight. I expect a huge season from him this year.

C 6’8 [player_tooltip player_id="1076677" first="Jose" last="Murillo"], Highland: Jose has made huge strides since his freshman year adding a mid range jump shot, and quicker feet in the post. He can grab defensive rebounds go coast to coast and dunk it on just about anyone on the other end. He has an offer from Eastern New Mexico.

F 6’4 [player_tooltip player_id="1076691" first="Colby" last="Wade"], Atrisco Heritage: Wade is one of the highest stock risers over the past year. An athletic forward that thrives in transition, Colby, has improved his shooting and ball handling, while slowly making the transition to a wing player. He will be the man at Atrisco this year, and will need to dominant in order to lead them to a potential state championship.

PF 6’7 [player_tooltip player_id="1076682" first="Brady" last="Arrenius"], Cibola: Brady will enter this season as a four year starter for Cibola. A stretch big that can shoot the ball from deep, and also has a solid post game, Arrenius, has a great combination of power and finesse to his game that will definitely help him get to the next level. Holds a 4.5 GPA.

PF 6’6 [player_tooltip player_id="1076681" first="Kaden" last="Self"], Las Cruces: Kaden averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds per game last season, and is due for a big time senior year. I expect to see him average closer to a double-double, and be more imposing on the defensive end. It will be interesting to see how much he has developed his wing skills which would make Las Cruces even more dangerous.
