The group has a bunch of under the radar guys who will take on a larger scoring role this season. Here are the top under the radar prospects set to lead their teams in 2021-22.
Hampton Sanders Hampton Sanders 6'0" | PG Lawrenceville | 2023 State NJ , 6’0 PG Lawrenceville
Sanders has had a solid varsity career through two seasons, but is ready to take another step forward this year. The Princeton Day transfer has a good handle, which he uses to beat his defender off the bounce and finish around the rim. Sanders is more than just a slasher as he can knock down open jumpers from distance and plays with confidence on the offensive end. He is a tough on-ball defender and is unafraid to dive on the floor for loose balls. Sanders is a gritty, two-way guard who should have a strong season with Lawrenceville.
Richard Machado Richard Machado 6'1" | CG Saddle River Day | 2023 State NJ , 6’1 CG Saddle River Day
Machado has been a complimentary piece to the Rebels’ attack over the last two seasons, but should be the main guy in his junior campaign. The 6’1 guard is a marksman from deep with a quick release and can hit triples in bunches. Machado can also beat his defender off the bounce and finish around the basket. He is an underrated passer who has the potential to run the offense in a pinch. Machado is a sharp-shooting guard who should have a big junior season for Saddle River Day.
Chris Venturoso Chris Venturoso 6'3" | SG Lacey | 2023 State NJ , 6’3 SG Lacey
The Lions lost star forward Carson Howard and will need Venturoso to step up in a big way. The 6’3 guard is at his best attacking the basket as he is a good finisher and can draw contact. Venturoso has a nice floater and can score in the mid-range. He is a good rebounder for a guard and an underrated defender. Venturoso will be asked to shoulder a larger scoring role and is a breakout candidate to watch in the Shore Conference.
Nate Pluviose Nate Pluviose 5'10" | PG Pope John XXIII | 2023 State NJ , 5’10 PG Pope John XXIII
Pluvioe is set for a breakout 2021-22 season and is a prospect to watch in Sussex County. The 5’10 guard has a nice handle, which he uses to break his defender down off the bounce and get to the rim. Pluviose is a good finisher and does not mind drawing contact on his way to the basket. He is a solid on-ball defender as he moves his feet well and knows how to play passing lanes. Pluviose is a talented lead guard who is ready to have a big junior campaign for Pope John XXIII.
Noah Payne Noah Payne 6'1" | PG Peddie | 2024 State NJ , 5’10 PG Eastern
Payne has been a part of the Vikings’ offense for the last two seasons and is set to have a big season. The 5’10 guard has a good handle and does not force the issue in the half court. Payne can finish around the basket and has a nice mid-range game. He knows how to get deflections on the defensive end and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands. Payne is a breakout prospect to watch in the Olympic Conference this year as he gets more touches on the offensive end.
