Talk about a classification that is wide open. 5A was won by a team that did not finish 1st or 3rd in their region last year in Lehi. Could it happen again? the answer is absolutely. In the end it is all about who is playing the best in the end and who has the best game plan that makes shots. There is one team that will be labeled the favorite and that is Olympus, they return a lot of talent and have some youngsters that will see more time. The other teams that seem to have some run in them will have new coaches in Alta and Timpview. When evaluating teams and players there are many teams that could simply beat each other. There aren’t too many teams that will go without a loss on their record.

10. Brighton || Region 6 || 16-8 ||

[player_tooltip player_id="934504" first="Lander" last="Barton"] is a beast on both ends of the floor. he is strong and a football player playing basketball but he can hoop. [player_tooltip player_id="1129117" first="Jace" last="Matheson"] is another players who will have an increase in production.

9. Murray || Region 6 || Spartans || 7-17 ||

Murray has been relying on a lot of young talent for sometime and now they have more experience and they have all been playing well this summer for their respective teams. [player_tooltip player_id="934036" first="Chudi" last="Anosike"] looks like a different player, Jaxon Workman is out there shooting the lights out and he is more mature. [player_tooltip player_id="967691" first="Bowen" last="Davies"] is giving them some strength and height on the blocks. Murray has depth and youth and they can make a run at it.

8. Highland || Region 6 || Rams || 9-13 ||

Highland could be a sleeper team as they have a lot of talent coming back. They have players like [player_tooltip player_id="934506" first="Elijah" last="Tolbert"] that has some great moves and can score the ball. Very impressed with [player_tooltip player_id="1066745" first="Sefa" last="Brown"] as a SF, he is young and talented. [player_tooltip player_id="755636" first="Ammon" last="Kaufusi"] is athletic and provides size and strength in the front-court. There are more players on their roster that are young and could really contribute.

7. Lehi || Region 8 || Pioneers || 17-8 ||

The reigning 5A State Champions are right were they want to be and that is under the radar. Lehi is going to go through a youth movement. They have young players like [player_tooltip player_id="1057037" first="Cooper" last="Lewis"] and another player that is eligible this year in [player_tooltip player_id="967698" first="Cole" last="Richardson"] that will be on the floor more often. [player_tooltip player_id="969237" first="Braxton" last="Hawkins"] will be good and [player_tooltip player_id="1168376" first="Grayson" last="Brousseau"] is one of the better players in the Class of 2024.

6. Timpview || Region 8 || T-Birds || 22-4 ||

Timpview always seem to have talent or they simply get the best of what they have. Timpview will have a new coach but they will return sophomore standout [player_tooltip player_id="934031" first="James" last="Rust"]. James had a great summer and he is bigger and stronger and his game is better. It’s hard to write off Timpview and this is why they are here in the seven spot.

5. Woods Cross || Region 5 || Wildcats || 10-12 ||

Last season Woods Cross had a few young players that had game but they didn’t get consistent minutes. This year will be different as they will depend on under-classmen. Look out for [player_tooltip player_id="934027" first="Mason" last="Bendinger"] who is playing at a high level. [player_tooltip player_id="969245" first="Jaxon" last="Smith"] has game as well and youngster [player_tooltip player_id="1231453" first="Carson" last="Smith"] could make a major impact.

4. Skyline || Region 6 || Eagles || 6-17 ||

Skyline could be the team that turns it around the most this year. They have two dynamic players in [player_tooltip player_id="968785" first="Kolton" last="Smith"] who can shoot the ball from all over the floor. They also have [player_tooltip player_id="942593" first="Yorgio" last="Golesis"] who can handle the ball and shoot. With those two anchoring the team they could put up a lot of points.

3. Alta || Region 8 || Hawks || 13-12 ||

Alta has a new look with a new coach and they have been playing different in just a short period of time. They have players all over the team that play hard. [player_tooltip player_id="967725" first="Jaxon" last="Heiden"] is a player that is under the radar that can go. He has height and he has skills out in the perimeter. They have another tough guard in [player_tooltip player_id="968776" first="Jett" last="Lundberg"] that can score and play as well.

2. Orem || Region 8 || Tigers || 6-19 ||

Orem is no stranger to the top and with a few transfers that have come in and the pieces they already have they will be a good team on paper. [player_tooltip player_id="1127234" first="Nick" last="Clark"] has been having a great summer, [player_tooltip player_id="1127232" first="Dane" last="Christensen"] is a nice player that has size and shooting ability. Look for [player_tooltip player_id="1066744" first="Lance" last="Reynolds"] to come back from football and have himself a good sophomore season. They will be major contenders.

1.Olympus || Region 6 || 22-3 ||

Olympus is stacked and they have depth. Their youth is good but they will go as far as [player_tooltip player_id="934490" first="Jack" last="Wistrcill"] takes them. With a lack of true bigs in 5A Jack has the advantage. With a solid game inside on the blocks he could be too much to handle. When it comes to stepping out Jack can step out and shoot the ball. Olympus has other players that will play a major role like [player_tooltip player_id="1057034" first="Dutch" last="Dowdell"], [player_tooltip player_id="1057020" first="Jordan" last="Barnes"] and Will Rich. This team will be tough to stop and they will compete with the best in 6A as well.
