While we’ve been updating our rankings and breaking down content on those, we decided to take a look at some of the best specialists in different areas of the state. Today, we take a look at some of the top shooters in the RVA area.

Davin Cosby | 6’4” WG | John Marshall ’22

Cosby is one of the biggest stock risers this summer from the Richmond area, as the elite shooter put on a clinic in the June live period in DC and continued his steady play with Team Loaded throughout the summer. While he’s been a secret for many outside of the Richmond area, Cosby has been known around here for his ability to get open on the move and make shots with deep range, he is excellent in sets and knows how to read screens and when he gets it going you want him to continue to let it fly as he’ll usually hit around half of them he takes. Add in the fact that he has improved off the bounce and as an athlete and it’s easy to see why so many division one schools are after his services now.

[player_tooltip player_id="815596" first="Deshawn" last="Goodwyn"] | 6’4” WG | George Wythe ’22

Goodwyn is as prolific of a catch and shoot guy as you will come across as he’s on pace to rewrite the record books at George Wythe for most three-pointers made in a career despite missing and entire season last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He’s been playing up his entire AAU career and even in middle school he was able to set up and knock it down out past the NBA range, and he’s about as confident as a shooter as you’ll come across. He’s a spot up guy but with his size and range he can get shots off regularly and is often double teamed and the focal point of box-and-ones.

[player_tooltip player_id="1107889" first="Rival" last="Axselle"] | 6’3” WG | Atlee ’22

Axselle has really come on in the past few years as he’s grown and become a prolific knock down shooter form deep, and when it comes to shooters there aren’t many that have the feel and understanding of how to get open than he does. He drifts well with the ball and relocates regularly, he can come off of screens and get open and he is deadly from the corners and at the top of the key especially. The lefty has good length and a quick release, and he’s one of the most consistent guys from deep in the state as he’s always shot it well when I watched him.

[player_tooltip player_id="962808" first="Dorian" last="Davis"] | 6’0” WG | Highland Springs ’22

Davis may not be known by many outside of the Richmond area, but the Highland Springs guard is one of the most dynamic scorers and has takeover ability when he gets it going. He’s the type of guy who may not get it going right away, but once he hits a couple he can knock down shots from all over the floor and can do it off the catch or off the bounce. He is capable of exploding for 30 at any point and it’s his shooting form deep that is especially dangerous.

[player_tooltip player_id="1217466" first="Maddox" last="Winston-Evans"] | 6’3” WG | Collegiate ’22

Winston-Evans was a part of a Rock It Spots group this summer that was very competitive against a number of good teams, and that entire group has developed over the past few years and he’s been one of them. He’s a strong wing that is a specialist from deep, but he has an absolute burner and knows his role and gets open and knocks down shots consistently. He’s a high academic kid that small schools should be all over with his size and ability to knock it down.

[player_tooltip player_id="1241880" first="Myles" last="Derricot"] | 6’2” WG | Varina ’23

Derricot is set to have a breakout year this season after a good sophomore campaign and he’s a highly talented two guard that can play on and off the basketball. He’s a lights out shooter from deep with range out to the NBA line and he’s able to work off the ball to get open or put it on the deck and create space and make tough shots as well. He’s a solid playmaker as well and can attack closeouts, making his shooting ability even more deadly.

[player_tooltip player_id="999619" first="Yuri" last="Manns"] | 6’3” CG | LC Bird ’23

Manns has been one of the top young prospects in the Richmond area the past few years, and he looks like he’s ready to turn the corner and his shooting ability has a lot to do with it. He’s long with good size and good range, he can come off of screens or relocate off the ball and he’s able to put it on the deck and get to spots as well. He’s become much more consistent over the past few years and he’ll be a big time scorer this year.
