While we’ve been updating our rankings and breaking down content on those, we decided to take a look at some of the best specialists in different areas of the state. Today, we take a look at some of the top low post scorers across VA.

[player_tooltip player_id="798689" first="Houston" last="Emory"] | 6’10” C | Blue Ridge ’22

Emory will be the first to admit that he cares more about defense than he does offense, however that doesn’t stop him from being able to score the ball in a number of ways. The 6’10” big has good touch with both hands in the lane, he has solid footwork and is springy off the catch and is quick off his feet and he has improved his range to be able to step out and score it as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="815584" first="Keyontae" last="Lewis"] | 6’8” C | LC Bird ’22

Lewis is set for a breakout senior year at Bird as he’s improved his weight but kept his strength, and he’s a true back to the basket and catch and finish specialist. He can score it over either shoulder, he has moves and counters in the post and he can over power guys and play in traffic to create space and finish at the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="1107832" first="Cooper" last="Bowser"] | 6’9” | John Paul the Great ’22

Another bruising and skilled big in the paint, Bowser has improved a lot over the past few years and he can dominate in the paint on the offensive end with his blend of strength and skill. He’s able to overpower defenders and finish through traffic, he can score over both shoulders and he can hit the offensive glass and get second chance opportunities.

[player_tooltip player_id="999617" first="Carter" last="Lang"] | 6’9” C | STAB ’23

Lang is one of the most well rounded offensive bigs in the state, as he can score from multiple levels, rebounds well on the offensive glass and is an excellent passer both out of the post and on the perimeter. Lang’s best attribute is that he’s a big target in the post and can catch and finish over post defenders, and he plays extremely hard running the floor and using his motor for second chance points, and he’s starting to add the ability to make shots from deep too.

[player_tooltip player_id="1159838" first="Evan" last="Ramsey"] | 6’11” C | Abingdon ’23

Ramsey is an up-and-coming big in SWVA and is already on college coaches radars after helping Abingdon to a runner-up in the Class 3 state championship. Standing almost or at 7’0”, he has great touch int he paint and out to the three-point line, he plays well through contact and has a bevy of moves and counters going either way, and he still has room to get better.

Darrell Johnson | 6’6” PF | Fairfax Christian ’23

Johnson is part of an influx of talent heading to Fairfax Christian after being a force for Patriot over the past few years, and he mix of bully ball and moves in the post make him a handful to deal with. He can score it out to 18 feet, he can overpower guys in the post and he has the ability to face up or score over either shoulder too.

[player_tooltip player_id="999660" first="Dylan" last="Saunders"] | 6’7” PF | Cave Spring ’23

Saunders is an up-and-coming big in the Roanoke area and he has a whole package to him as a scorer that makes him very hard to guard one-on-one with his different ways of scoring it. He can face up and put it on the deck, he can step out and make shots out to 18 feet and he has good touch over both shoulders with back-to-the-basket moves as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="999635" first="Josh" last="Sime"] | 6’7” PF | Western Albemarle ’23

Sime was already on the radar for a talented Western Albemarle team before having a big Fall in the CBG Series and having a big summer with Boo Williams 16U team. Sime is an athletic and long forward who can run the floor and finish above the rim and he has improved his range on catch-and-shoot situations, but he really thrives as a face up big and he can score with his back to the basket as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="1259619" first="Manny" last="Okitondo"] | 6’8” C | Oak Hill Academy ’24

Okitondo has a chance to be a very big time prospect with his mix of size, athleticism and skill set at such a young age, and coupled with a good motor he has all the tools to continue to develop. The 6’8” big is quick off his feet and he can finish above the rim, he can post and score it over the shoulder and he can work off the ball to get to lobs and catch and finish situations in the post too.

[player_tooltip player_id="1259631" first="Patrick" last="Ngongba"] | 6’8” | Highland School ’24

Ngongba is part of a young and talented Highland group and he’s an old school big with good hands, feet and touch in the paint making him a true post technician. He has good size and solid strength as well as good mobility, he can score it over both shoulders and he has good touch and makes his free throws as well.
