The annual elite camp hosted by Northwestern State brought together some of the best preps from Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas to Natchitoches to showcase their talent. The early contest were competitive from the initial tip and there were preps who definitely came to play. In this early report, let me review who stood out early in Prather Coliseum.

[player_tooltip player_id="970133" first="Tyler" last="Ringgold"] (6’7" / Southern Lab / 2023)

Ringgold got off to a hot start nailing and early three and never looked back. His skill set is a versatile one and he had it all going during the early sessions. Tyler was able to rebound and push during several occasions handling the ball like a smaller guard but in a 6’7" frame. He attacked all post players off the dribble and finished with either hand. Ringgold flashed good passing skills and sees the floor really well when he attacks the rim. He finished his early session play with an emphatic dunk from a downhill attack. Tyler went into his bag and showed us everything he has in his arsenal.

[player_tooltip player_id="1053313" first="Jalen" last="Bolden"] (6’5" / Zachary / 2022)

Bolden just puts so much pressure on defense when he is on the floor. During the early games at Prather, he had his outside game going from three. At one time, he made about four in a row, in catch-and-shoot situations as well as using the one dribble pull up. He relentlessly attacked the glass as well and had several putbacks. Bolden had all parts of his game going and showed the coaches in attendance that he can do a lot of things well on the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="1130919" first="Deion" last="Ware"] (6’4" / Hamilton Christian / 2023)

Ware hit a couple of triples early and that just opened up the floor for him. He can get into the paint and either shot his floater or attack the rim. When the ball hits the glass, he has one of the quickest second and third jumps in the prep game. This allowed him to finish several tip in buckets. Ware was aggressive on a couple of downhill attacks and almost caught a body on both. Ware is turning himself into a more complete player and played impressively early at Northwestern.

[player_tooltip player_id="781863" first="Jacob" last="Wilson"] (6’5" / Liberty / 2022)

Wilson might have used the first game to warm up. However, when he got going, he filled the stat sheet in every game he played. Wilson displayed the ability to step out and make the college three during one possesion and then led the break on the next. He has point guard ability in a wing frame. His willingness to fill any role on the floor and score in those various roles displayed the depth of his ability. Wilson defintely had it going in the early sessions.

[player_tooltip player_id="781854" first="Mason" last="Russell"] (6’3" / Hamilton Christian / 2022)

Russell was very good on the defensive end of the floor showing his ability to defend guards with varying skill and size. He is big and he makes offensive players do what he wants them to do. On the offensive end, he was good with his one dribble pull-up from the baseline and showed he can be effective collapsing defenses once he gets to the paint. Russell is good on both ends of the floor a placed that on display early at NSU.

Keanu Dawes (6’7" / Houston Stratford / 2023)

Dawes was one of the most aggressive players during the early games at NSU. He knows how to play the game and can play it on multiple levels. Dawes stepped out and hit perimeter jumpers and he scored in the paint on difficult layups amidst contact. He fought hard on the boards and showed a high level of toughness when he was in the paint. Given a clean dive to the lane, he will finish on players as well. The junior from Houston had an impressive showing during his time on the floor.

The NSU elite camp will commence on Saturday afternoon. The next elte camp in north Louisiana will be held at LSU-Alexandria on September 11th.

The early contest were competitive from the initial tip and there were preps who definitely came to play. In this early report, let me review who stood out early in Prather Coliseum.

Tyler Ringgold Tyler Ringgold Tyler Ringgold 6'7" | SF Legacy Early College | 2023 State SC (6’7" / Southern Lab / 2023)

Jalen Bolden Jalen Bolden 6'5" | SG Zachary | 2022 State LA (6’5" / Zachary / 2022)

Deion Ware Deion Ware 6'4" | CG Hamilton Christian | 2023 TX (6’4" / Hamilton Christian / 2023)

Jacob Wilson Jacob Wilson Jacob Wilson 6'5" | SF Liberty | 2022 State LA (6’5" / Liberty / 2022)

Mason Russell Mason Russell Mason Russell 6'2" | CG Hamilton Christian | 2022 State LA (6’3" / Hamilton Christian / 2022)
