Never assume news is quiet in South Florida. Prospects are about to go back to school, but some are still moving around before the deadline.

That’s just the 24/7 world of high school athletics down here.

Take a look at my notes...

There was nothing short of a mass exodus recently from Miramar High School. Former head coach Tramaine Stevens stepped down to join the college ranks at Chicago State. On the player side, you had 2022’s Faheim Meran and [player_tooltip player_id="814914" first="Deshawn" last="Jean-Charles"] transfer to West Oaks Academy. The SIAA program welcomes two versatile players that stand 6-foot-5 and 6-foot-6, respectively. Both Meran and Jean-Charles can guard multiple positions and run the floor. They each have offers from a number of low-major programs. 2022 wing [player_tooltip player_id="814907" first="Kaleb" last="Walters"] also left for TSF Prep*. Walters is 6-foot-6 with bounce on the floor. He also holds offers from low/mid-major programs. If that wasn’t enough, 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="829449" first="Gabriel" last="Kincy"] went to Dillard High School. He will play for former Western coach Mike Hardy. The 6-foot-7 Kincy has size and can shoot from the perimeter. He also has D-1 offers on his plate. This is a real "emoji shrug" if you’re a Patriots fan.

*2022 foward [player_tooltip player_id="818731" first="Kameron" last="Johnson"] (Doral Academy) has also left for TSF Prep.

What an add for Miami Palmetto with the transfer of 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="814912" first="Jimel" last="Lane"]. The 6-foot-7 wing averaged 19.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while helping the Lions to a 21-3 record. Palmetto is getting a difference maker in the halfcourt that can explode off the wing. In addition, Lane can run the floor and score in transition. Lane scored in double-figures in 19 of 21 games as a junior. I love his consistency and ability to score in a variety of ways. He recently heard from Arkansas-Little Rock. Lane joins forces with 2024 guard [player_tooltip player_id="1055700" first="Braylon" last="Burbridge"] (Sagemont) and 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1163365" first="Alex" last="Soto"] (Doral Academy).

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="955795" first="Gabriel" last="Gaspard"] just announced his intent to transfer from Dr. Krop to North Miami. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 15.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game for the Lightning. On defense, he was active with 30 recorded steals. Gaspard joins a North Miami team with a lot of depth at guard. The Pioneers have talented 2022’s [player_tooltip player_id="1065430" first="Rick" last="Daniels"] and Odley Francois, as well as a fantastic player in 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="1164250" first="Derrick" last="Edouard"]. Gaspard is a multi-level scorer that can rebound well for his position. He is also a high-academic addition to the school.

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="955602" first="Anquan" last="Boldin Jr"] made the tough decision to leave St. Andrew’s for IMG Academy. Personally, I think it’s a great move for him as his stock continues to rise. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard lit up the summer circuit with his explosiveness and playmaking ability. He has momentum on his side and gets to play at a prestigious institution with national exposure. Boldin Jr should only get better as a basketball player with the Ascenders. Albany State, Barry and Lynn have all offered.

2023 point guard [player_tooltip player_id="963317" first="Ashton" last="Smith"] transferred from Hallandale to Sagemont. This was probably a need for the Lions as they lost 2021 Rapheal Houssou and [player_tooltip player_id="1055700" first="Braylon" last="Burbridge"]. Smith has good size at 6-foot-2 to run the point and is an excellent playmaker. He averaged 10.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game for the Chargers. Smith played very well against some of the better competition he faced. For example, he made five 3-pointers against Westminster Academy and scored 15 points against Mater Academy Charter. Smith shot 35 percent from deep overall.
