This weekend I attended the Section-7 Finals at Brophy Prep in Phx, AZ.

There were only 36 invited teams instead of the first Section-7 with 190 teams.

There were also four teams who made the Summer-64 Final-4 who ended up at Brophy Prep to play in front of the college coaches.

I viewed around 10 local teams this weekend and here were some 2024 standouts:

[player_tooltip player_id="994006" first="Styles" last="Phipps"] St. Mary’s

-A scoring lead guard with a tight handle. He has good pace to his game and is becoming more and more assertive and attempting more shots on this team. He has a nice pull-up from mid to the 3pt line and can hit the catch-3. The ball is on a string for him and has that next level feel for the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="992829" first="Gabe" last="Pickens"] Millennium

-A pass first PG controls games with his passing. He has a strong frame and powerful legs to go along with his nice handle and speed. He uses it to get into the lane and carve out space. He makes teammates better on the regular, as he is the quintessential PG. He can hit the deep-3 and pull-up at times but loves getting into that lane and scoring or making a play.

[player_tooltip player_id="996166" first="Braeden" last="Speed"] Brophy Prep

-A very athletic guard who has many traits to like. He is a good rebounder for a guard and has a quick burst into the lane using a nice first step. He has good awareness to throw passes to teammates. He also can post up opposing guards and score it.

[player_tooltip player_id="996170" first="Christian" last="Holly"] Millennium (Pictured)

-Another weekend Holly has performed well. Has has nice open court speed and he keeps improving his 3pt shot off the catch. He uses his speed or cuts into the lane for layups and is a very active defender with fast hands and feet.

[player_tooltip player_id="1135514" first="Treyvion" last="Curry"] Millennium

-An energizer bunny off the bench. He defends the 1-3 for them and brings his activity on both ends of the court. He can hit the catch-3 and is a good defensive and offensive rebounding guard for the undersized team.

[player_tooltip player_id="996173" first="Donovan" last="Franks"] Millennium

-One of the two bigger players on the roster played well. He had an efficient day scoring around the hoop with layups and put backs. It wasn’t fancy but he ran the floor and cashed in some dimes from [player_tooltip player_id="992829" first="Gabe" last="Pickens"]. He is a rugged type of player and plays hard, which is all Coach Amundsen can ask from his young big.
