There was a ton of talent on display and there were a lot of great games. Here is a look at the top standouts from the 13U division.
DeZhon Hall & Keaton Aldridge (North Coast Blue Chips)
Capturing the 13U title over Wisconsin Elite on Sunday, the North Coast Blue Chips proved how tough of a group they really are. DeZhon Hall is the glue of this group and he plays lightyears ahead of his actual age. The kid is a banger down low, a solid ballhandler and very hard to slow down defensively. He combined for 23 points with Keaton Aldridge who thrives going to the rim and finishing with purpose. The Blue Chips always battle no matter the score.
Lamont Hamilton (Wisconsin Elite)
Perhaps the best guard in the building in 13U, Lamont Hamilton doesn’t back away from any challenge. I mean he drew a foul when he faced four defenders at the rim Ilate in the championship loss to the North Coast Blue Chips. The kid is a true playmaker. He had 17 points earlier in the day and 21 points in the title game. Hamilton is well on his way and is going to make waves at the varsity level awfully soon in Wisconsin.
John Sanderson & Max Jansenvanvuren (Bates Fundamentals)
Bates Fundamentals has size, athleticism and shooters all around. John Sanderson is the most polished prospect for this squad. I watched him put together performances of 16 and 13 points on Sunday and he could have easily had more in both. He’s unselfish as they come as a passer and locked-in 3-point man. His future is bright. Max Jansenvanvuren plays his role around the rim well and also posted a 16-point game in a win over Ft. Sooy early Sunday. He is a strong and lengthy forward.
Jon Claude L’homme (Team Teague Shawn)
I came away very impressed with the all-around game of Jon Claude L’homme. He is poised, crafty and always aware of his surroundings. He added 15 points in a hard fought win for Team Teague Shawn against the Carolina Underdogs on Sunday (a part of our Most Memorable Matchups article). He made huge free throws down the stretch and simply made plays to put his team on top.
Cameron Webster (The City)
To wrap up the Sunday slate, The City earned a fine outing from Cameron Webster. The speedy guard has all the tools to burn defenders out in transition and at the rim. He has a nice jumper and proved his worth with a 19 point game for The City in a win over Iowa Barnstormers Gold. He is someone to monitor as he moves into the 8th grade.
Jason Rogers (Carolina Underdogs)
For the Carolina Underdogs, Jason Rogers was rock solid for the Underdogs with 15 points in a close loss to Team Teague Shawn on Sunday. He uses his body well at the point of attack and can certainly hurt defenders with his lay-in ability. Rogers is a quiet leader for the Underdogs.
Jude Owen & Owen Kalimas (Indy Nets)
The Indy Nets truly work well together and Jude Owen (12 points) and Owen Kalimas (10 points) came to play in a win on Sunday over Ft. Sooy. Owen is a bigger body who knows his role in the paint, grabbing boards and putting back misses. Kalimas is an active guard who can shoot and push the cause up the floor.
DeVaughn Ware & Ian Thomas (Ball Hogg Academy)
In a victory over All Area Basketball Gold on Sunday, Ball Hogg Academy saw DeVaughn Ware take over the game often. The smaller framed guard is deceptively powerful and can hurt defenders with his finishing ability and scoring prowess. He recorded 14 points in that game. Ian Thomas added some juice with 10 points and a lot of grinding in the paint.
