The great thing about South Florida sports is something is always happening. In this case, area basketball news is a 24/7 cycle. I can tell you first hand it’s not like this where I’m from originally.

Let’s jump into the latest...

2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1055700" first="Braylon" last="Burbridge"] transferred from Sagemont to Miami Palmetto. The 5-foot-10 point guard received extensive playing time for the Lions and looked very poised when called upon. My impression on Burbridge from the few times I saw him play was that I didn’t feel the moment was too big for him. I thought that was very evident when Sagemont played against Westminster Academy. He looked very confident in that contest; something that probably grew from every game he played. That extra experience should transition over to Miami Palmetto. Burbridge accelerates off the dribble and will play through contact. He has a very strong handle and can use his quickness to attack the basket. I thought Burbridge often made the right reads at the point and minimized his mistakes. For example, he can pop a three from the perimeter and not hesitate to do so. Other kids might flinch or make an arrant extra pass; but not Burbridge. In addition, his passing ability set up scoring opportunities for his teammates. He has good lateral movement and has active hands as a defensive stopper. Burbridge is playing during the live period with coach Tim Hardaway Jr./Team Hardaway. He has received interest from Queens University of Charlotte and Florida Memorial University.

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="814915" first="Faheim" last="Meran"] out of Miramar has been offered by Jackson State University. The 6-foot-6 point guard also picked up offers from North Carolina A&T and Samford. Given his length, Meran can be a versatile defender. He can guard multiple positions and use his long arms to create difficult shot attempts. Meran can also create his own offense and rebound at a high rate. Look for him to be difficult to stop in transition with his size and athleticism. Meran should play well with players Gabe Kincy and Deshawn Jean-Charles around him.

Quick shoutout to 2021 [player_tooltip player_id="953685" first="Kenny" last="Turner"]. The former St. Andrew’s power forward has signed with King University (TN). Turner was a very hard worker with the Scots and helped the team to a 2020 state championship. He averaged 6.4 points and 4.4 rebounds last season. His power around the post should already transition over to the college level.

Former Calvary Christian Academy prospect [player_tooltip player_id="1068757" first="Dylan" last="Canoville"] will be attending Miami Prep School. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound forward runs with SOH Elite. Canoville is a powerful player that would be a great addition to a college program. Moreover, his strong lower body created many explosive plays around the rim last season. He averaged 9.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while shooting 42 percent from the floor. He is an underrated prospect that will only benefit with an extra year in South Florida.

Look out for 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1161417" first="Sanjay" last="Haughton"] for Calvary Christian Academy. He is playing with Florida Pro 17U this summer. The 6-foot-5 guard is an explosive athlete that can play above the rim. His overall size and ability to knock down shots makes him an intriguing look over the summer. With all the talent over there in Fort Lauderdale, he could be a kid that surprises some people.
