Brawl for the Ball: Top Guards

<p>I was unable to attend the Brawl for the Ball in Fort Wayne this year due to a conflicting event. Still not an excuse even as we begin to return to normalcy post-COVID. Livestreaming continues to be a luxury we can utilize and I was fortunate to check out a few games via livestream from the event. In Part 1 of coverage, I breakdown a few guards that showed poise and solid play in their respective games viewed.</p> <p><strong>Landon Brewer (2024)- <em>NW Ohio (Antwerp)</em></strong> 6-3 SG</p> <p>Brewer really played his role well with NW Ohio in their matchup against Storm 25. The lefty has good vertical leaping ability accompanied with a high basketball IQ. High volume shooter with the ability to really get hot once he gets in a groove. Utilized the pump fake in the midrange to get even more open shots. Smart defender playing with his feet and straight up hands. Understands the game well for a sophomore to be. I will definitely enjoy seeing how he plays into Antwerp’s rotation in the Winter.</p> <p><strong>Marquez Frazier (2023)- <em>C2K Thunder (Toledo St. John’s)</em></strong> 5-9 PG</p> <p>Wednesday’s livestream was admittingly my first time seeing Frazier compete. One thing that stands out right away is his handling of the basketball. Good decision maker even when moving at a high speed. Great quickness and isn’t phased by pressure in the half court or in full court. Gets downhill quickly against bigger and longer competition while showing he can get shots up through this length. Shooting mechanics is a question mark for me going forward but everything I see is positive towards Frazier as he prepares to join St. John’s.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1078615" first="Chaze" last="Harris"] (2022)- <em>C2K Lima (Bedford)</em></strong> 6-3 PG</p> <p>I have heard good things about Harris in other showcases/events this Spring. Seeing him online further showed me what this young man is capable of. Speedster with the basketball in his hand. Uses the spin move as his go-to move. Poised on the perimeter whether he’s seeing zone defense or man-to-man. I love his size as he’s bigger for a PG and clearly showed he’s unafraid to put the ball on the floor and use that speed and size. Harris is worth evaluating by colleges as he could be a hidden gem in this 2022 class.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1201819" first="Trey" last="Majidzadeh"] (2022)- <em>Central Ohio AAU (Olentangy Liberty)</em></strong> 6-0 PG</p> <p>Majidzadeh looks the part of a floor general and exemplified this with Central Ohio AAU. Changes his direction so quickly and explodes to the basket. Continuously got by defenders from Indy Heat with this speed and focus. Showed he can take shots in the midrange but couldn’t get those shots to fall in the game I watched. I like his game and think D3 schools especially should be watching him compete.</p>
