On June 18-20 I attended the Section-7 at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale/AZ. The site was impressive and so was the hoops.

I saw many teams I have never seen before from different states along with some local teams.

Here were some AZ newcomers that caught my attention:

[player_tooltip player_id="1220362" first="Donovan" last="Beard"] Dobson (Pictured)

-A young, long and lean scoring lead guard. He is a natural scorer who plays with good pace to his game. He drives and kicks it well and he has a quick burst into the lane. His pull-up from mid to the 3pt line is impressive. He may have had the best pull-up that I saw all day from his class. He is quick in the passing lanes with good anticipation to collect steals.

[player_tooltip player_id="1220386" first="Denton" last="Latimore"] Dobson

-A thick guard recently grew at least one inch or two. He can shoot it with an easy stroke from the arc. He has a strong upper body and is a good athlete. He uses his build and frame to get on the glass, as he rebounds the ball well in and out of his area for a guard. The rising senior will be leaned on this upcoming season for the Mustangs.

[player_tooltip player_id="1220368" first="Lincoln" last="Keinholz"] Casteel

-A newcomer by way of South Dakota is impressive. He has a strong upper body with some serious bounce. He has a confident handle and can make passes with either hand to his teammates. His 3pt shot is best off the catch and has a mean pull-up off the dribble from mid-range. He gets high elevation and it looks good coming out. He gets into the lane with his build and the Colts found their floor general for next year. He also happens to be a 3-sport athlete.

[player_tooltip player_id="1220377" first="Deavion" last="Tillman"] Washington

-A long wing with skill. He can shoot it easily from the 3pt line and in. he can get into the lane somewhat, but he currently prefers to score it from the perimeter. He moves well up the court and looks to be the future of the program.

[player_tooltip player_id="1220378" first="Sammy" last="Brodsky"] Phoenix Country Day

-A scoring lead guard with a good feel for the game. He can shoot it with some real range. He has a quicker trigger and is very confident. He has a smaller frame, but he will take a lot of pressure off of their leader T. Felli this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1220369" first="Darius" last="Anderson"] Dysart

-A long power forward who works well inside. He is undersized but plays with a motor and gives the team extra possessions on the boards. He manages to get to the FT line or scores it inside effectively. He is not a perimeter scorer currently but he brings energy, length and paint scoring.

Justin Garcia CG 5’9-5'10 2023 Campo Verde

-A undersized guard who can light it up from the perimeter. He has range and he can catch and shoot it quickly from the perimeter. He will take a lot of pressure off of PG I. Kai this upcoming season.
