Prep Hoops was in the gym Saturday at the Modesto Christian Summer Classic. The event was held at multiple gyms in the surrounding area. PH spent the day at the main facility. These were the 2022 players we saw at the Modesto Christian gym. The games were competitive with plenty of NorCal talent on display.

MVP

Rashaud Bradley 6’4 Forward of Sheldon HS 2022

Bradley was a key player for Sheldon on their way to winning the title. He was consistent throughout the day. Not many players standing somewhere around 6’3 or 6’4 can man the paint as he did. His strength, and ability to score around the bucket was noticeable. He’s a tough minded player who’ll get rebounds and defend multiple positions, including a big in the post. A good all around player.

Devon Hayes 5’6 Guard of Sheldon HS 2022

Hayes, at 5’6 doesn’t look the part. Make no mistake about it, he gets the job done. He has good patience when he has to run the teams offense. His handles and passing are solid. He has good leverage and strength to keep defenders in front of him. His biggest contribution is his ability to knock down 3pt shots during the game. He’ll hit deeps one’s, and he’ll hit when you need one.

Breland Reed 6’3 W/G of Edison HS 2022

We thought Breland was one of the better defenders at this event. He fits the glue guy role. He has good tenacity, foot speed and the attitude to be a top notch defender. He had a few chase down blocks. He’s aggressive on the boards, and he’ll fill the lanes in transition. He had some success finishing around the basket. We’ll see more of him.

[player_tooltip player_id="766885" first="Austin" last="Stuart"] 6’1 Guard of Jesuit HS 2022

Stuart stepped his game up while his team had several players nursing injury. It was an opportunity to see the hard playing guard showcase his game. He has good handles, and is aggressive with the ball. He’ll attack if the opportunity presents itself, using short jumpers in the key or floaters to score. He has good vision, pushes the ball hard in transition, and passes it up early.

Aiden Burke 6’3 Guard of Archbishop Mitty HS 2022

Burke is the most experienced player on the roster, and seems to be taking on a new role with the CCS Champions. He did a lot more ball handling up top and looked to be more aggressive on the offensive end, driving and facilitating a lot more than just spotting up for jumpers. This will add balance and gives us an opportunity to see the whole package from Burke. He’ll rebound and defend.

Thomas Labbat 6’8 Forward of Dublin HS 2022

We’ve seen Labbat play back to back weekends now. He’s emerging as a key piece to his Dublin team. Standing 6’8 he’s improving as a player overall all. He looks to be playing with a bit more balance and coordination. We saw him put up a few outside shots at the previous event from the corners. His inside game is improved, but there's still work to do.

[player_tooltip player_id="766873" first="Marcellus" last="Franklin"] 6’6 W/F of Sacramento HS 2022

Franklin has made good improvement since the last time we saw him. He’s developed an outside game. He’s comfortable shooting jumpers, and handling the ball away from the basket. He’ll work the boards on both ends, and defend bigger players in the post. He can finish through contact.

Chauncy Marshall 5’8 PG of Edison HS

Marshall is one of those strong guards under 6’0 who plays with good intensity on defense, in other words he’s an annoying on ball defender. He’s hard to shake in the open court. He’s a pass first point guard with good handles, and patience to run the teams offense in the half court.

[player_tooltip player_id="1186515" first="Jayden" last="Morris"] 5’9 PG of Sacramento HS 2022

Morris has good handles, a strong body, and he did a good job of being a pass first point guard on the court. He showed good patience running the team in half court sets. He’s fearless going into the paint initiating contact against the big boys, he does have floater to finish over the top. He’ll make the long up court pass, and he’s a solid on ball defender.

Notable 2022 players in the other gym
