Several organizations hosted events around the city, including West Coast Elite’s, Vegas Memorial Day Classic, and Cal Elite Basketball’s West Coast Smoke. Several young players, many of which hadn’t played much basketball over the course of the past 12 months, used the events as a way to showcase their talents and put their names on the map. In this article, we take a look at some of the new names that stood out this weekend.
Ty Coleman |PG| Vegas Elite 2026 – Coleman was one of the fastest players end to end at the event. The PG used his speed on both sides of the ball, harassing defenders, and exploding to the rim to finish in transition. He came up big in the 14U championship game helping Vegas Elite take home the title.
Jonathon Derrington |SG| Cougars Elite 2025 – In the Championship game against Vegas Elite, Derrington put the Cougars on his back. The shooter knocked down 3’s from all over the floor keeping the team in the game with his accuracy. He displayed an advanced offensive game, creating space in iso’s with side steps and step-backs.
CJ Shaw |SG| Vegas Elite 2025 – I heard a lot about Shaw, but this was my first look at him. Loved his burst, and first step. Shaw was tough to defend 1 on 1, as he was able to routinely get by his initial defender and put pressure on the rim. Still undecided about where he will attend High School, but he will no doubt be a nice building block for some program.
Amarius Rowel |PG| WCE 2025 (featured image) – Rowel played up and competed against H.S opponents. In the game I watched it didn’t seem like it mattered. He was magnificent, driving and dishing at will. The PG showed nifty passing ability, delivering several pinpoint passes off the bounce.
Mike Anderson |SF| LV Shooters 2025 – Anderson played well, helping the Shooters reach the Championship game. He uses his frame to bang down low, however, he is exceptionally skilled in his use of the mid-range jumper. Anderson was money from the foul line extended, keeping the Shooters in the game with big shots throughout.
