With another weekend of action about to kick off, let’s take one more look back at some 16U’s who didn’t make the all-star team, but who stood out at the Grind Region Memorial Classic in Kansas City (in alphabetical order):

All Star:

[player_tooltip player_id="1080189" first="Eli" last="Shetlar"], 6-foot-4 guard, TBB KS, Andover HS (pictured):

Shetlar was the only Kansan listed on the GRMC all-star teams. He is a smooth, smart guard/wing who can do some of everything. He stood out for getting into the lane and making athletic plays, particularly kicking the ball to teammates or scoring on aggressive drives. But he can hit from distance, and has the length to impact the game in many ways.

Posts:

[player_tooltip player_id="1212173" first="Fernando" last="Gracia"] of 816 Burch made an impact with his shot blocking and his ability to float from the lane to the perimeter to find open threes. His teammate Drew Purdy is also a shot-blocking big who stood out in KC. Michael Brown of Wichita Magic is an intimidator in the lane who also passes well from the post. [player_tooltip player_id="1212171" first="Jailen" last="Thompson"] of United Basketball showed off a lot of athleticism and playmaking from the lane. Spencer Owens of KC Spurs and Wyatt Stover of B2B Elite were both really powerful and effective in the lane.

Wings:

[player_tooltip player_id="1080159" first="Will" last="Anciaux"] is a long, athletic playmaker for TBB KS, as is [player_tooltip player_id="1146284" first="Bryson" last="Perez"] for the Wichita Padres. Both were impactful at both ends in KC. [player_tooltip player_id="1196545" first="Aidan" last="Werth"] is a tough, physical battler for United Basketball, showing off a ton of skills on the perimeter and in the lane. [player_tooltip player_id="1214588" first="Mason" last="Gomez"] shot the lights out for Kansas 94x50 Elite, as did Bryce Casanova for the Padres. Ryan Cummings carried a lot of weight as the lone big for GABL Future and made a lot of nice plays in the lane.

Guards:

Guard-rich GABL Future got real nice performances from Trent Johnson and Sam Leatherwood, among others. Trevonte Miller is a small, quick guard who got it done for 816 Fox. [player_tooltip player_id="1212172" first="Malaki" last="Taylor"] is a heady, productive guard for the KC Spurs, occasionally getting in the lane to knock down jumpers and making a lot of other plays. Topekans Pearse Brown of 94x50 Elite and [player_tooltip player_id="1080200" first="Sincere" last="Austin"] of United Basketball were both fine at guiding their clubs, handling the ball and making good things happen.
