The class of 2024 watch list is an interesting one to say the least. The players who fill the list range from small guards to players who are 6’8". When it comes to mentioning players to watch, that group is comprised of a lot of players who got run last year on teams with upperclassmen leadership. In this article, we will look at ten players to definitely keep an eye on from the 2024 class.

[player_tooltip player_id="1105528" first="Noah" last="Brookter"] (6’2" / SG / Southside)

This young player has proven to be instant offense when he has come off the bench for the Sharks this spring/summer. Brookter is very effective offensively with baseline jumpers and slashing to the basket. He has also proven to be a defender who is not afraid of tackling tough assignments. Brookter may not be a starter at the beginning of the season but may be one by the beginning of district.

[player_tooltip player_id="1105533" first="Jordan" last="Comanche"] (6’3" / SG / Wossman)

Comanche has proven himself very useful in the combinations that Coach Jones has used this summer. Whether it has been coming off the bench or placed as a spot starter, Comanche has been most effective at rebounding in traffic and finishing on the break. On the defensive end, he has defended everyone from small guards to post players. Comanche has versatility that not many Wildcat players have. Look for his usage to increase as he gets more comfortable in the varsity scheme.

[player_tooltip player_id="1105537" first="Rondae" last="Hill"] (5’9" / PG / Calvary Baptist)

Calvary Baptist has always had two effective guards in the backcourt as part of their starting five. Hill will step into that second guard role next to [player_tooltip player_id="781850" first="Martin" last="McDowell"] this season. He has already played well opposite of McDowell during summer league this month by doing what he does best which is penetrate. Hill is quick and has the ability to get through tight spots due to his size. While he does over pass at times, Hill has good vision and sees plays well. Once he nails jumpers consistently, he will be a bigger threat in the Calvary offense.

Jovon Johnson (6’0" / CG / Bossier)

I have not seen a guard shoot the ball any better than Johnson this summer. He has been a potent part of the Bossier attack just by sprinting to the corners and burying three after three. On the defensive side of the ball, he has embraced the Bearkat style of man-to-man and is improving in that area this summer. Johnson broke into the starting lineup before district last season and will not be removed anytime soon because of his offensive and defensive play. Johnson is definitely one to watch in this very talented class.

[player_tooltip player_id="1105545" first="Greg" last="Manning"] (5’9" / PG / Benton)

This past season, Manning was the player Coach Martinez used in full deny situations on defense with point guard responsibilites. During team camps, the show has been Greg’s and he has not let off the gas any. Manning is a blur in the open floor and does not have a problem taking the ball coast-to-coast to score. He can also drop a triple or two if defenders are not careful. Manning still defends as hard as he did last year. While he will have to temper some of that energy to make it fhrough full games, he is very good at what he does for the Tigers.

[player_tooltip player_id="1105547" first="Jordan" last="Moore"] (6’3" / CG / Crescent City)

Moore may be the best player in the class. He is very athletic and has the ability to score in a variety of ways. Moore can also defend everything from the shortest guard to smaller post players. He is very good at attacking the basket and getting to the rim. Moore can get up as well and finish above the rim if needed. There are a very few holes in his game. He finished the basketball season on a high note as a state champion. The confidence has carried over and he has played well all summer.

[player_tooltip player_id="1105549" first="Laurence" last="Nathan"] (6’1" / PG / Carver)

As a freshman, Nathan handled being the point guard of a loaded team well last season. Signs are from team camp play, he is ready to contribute even more. Nathan has the ball in his hands a large amount of time and he is very adept at getting to the paint. He also made defenses pay for giving too much attention to Finister and Washington by making jumpers or getting to the rim. Nathan is very good in his own right and should be big for the Carver Rams this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1218192" first="Wayne" last="Randall-Bashay"] (6’4" / SF / New Iberia)

Randall-Bashay has a large portion of responsibility when he is on the floor for New Iberia. He has to score, defend the paint, protect the rim, and switch on to smaller guards. During the Airline team camp, he displayed all of that. Randall-Bashay would block a shot on a Wossman wing and then come down on the oppositie end and hit an elbow jumper. His skill set and responsibilities make him a player of high value. He is definitely one a player to keep an eye on in this class.

[player_tooltip player_id="1105550" first="McKennis" last="Savoie"] (6’2" / CG / North Central)

Some players make plays that catch your eye when they are on the floor and [player_tooltip player_id="1105550" first="McKennis" last="Savoie"] is one of them. During team camp play in Alexandria, those eye-catching plays were how high he would go for a rebound or how easily he scored at the rim. Savoie is one of those players that you can tell has some special talent while he is playing the game. With [player_tooltip player_id="566569" first="Derrick" last="Tezeno"] gone, he will be depended on to score and rebound more than last season. With the way he plays, I think Savoie will be just fine.

[player_tooltip player_id="1202676" first="Kameron" last="Williams"] (6’5" / SF / Lafayette Christian)

Williams may not have had the best game when I saw him versus a veteran Woodlawn (Shreveport) team. However, you can tell he has the makings of a prep player who can do so much on the floor. Of course he can rebound the ball. He handles the ball well for a wing and he has a stroke from outside that is very consistent. He has to improve his ballhandling with those smaller players picking him up full court. Given time, Williams has a skill set that will make him highly valued when graduation comes.

Other players like [player_tooltip player_id="1145438" first="Kohen" last="Rowbatham"], [player_tooltip player_id="1105536" first="Jeremiah" last="Evans"], and Dawson Knox will definitely be preps that should be on the radar as well. Team camps at East Ascension and Caldwell Parish will close out the month of June before all these preps hit the live period tournaments. Watch for these preps, and others, from the class of 2024 to raise some eyebrows in the months to come.
