June 10-13 I attended the Best in Basketball Summer Invitational at the Phhacility in Phx, AZ.

The 4-day event had 30 teams and I viewed almost all 30 over the 4-days.

Over the next 5 reports I will talk about 43 players who shined.

Stock Risers (7)

Under the Radar (8)

Newcomers (8)

Upperclassman Standouts (10)

Underclassman Standouts (10)

Next are the Upperclassman Standouts:

[player_tooltip player_id="826999" first="Andrew" last="King"] Desert Vista (Pictured left)

-The King-Dixon duo was on full display. King found Dixon many times for lobs and still managed to score per usual. His catch shooting was on and he made some pull-ups from mid to the 3. He uses the hesi to drive by his defenders and rebounds well for a guard. He took a few charges along the way and his court vision and shooting makes his game go as a true combo guard.

[player_tooltip player_id="1006964" first="Terrance" last="Dixon"] Desert Vista (Pictured right)

-He keeps turning heads every weekend he plays in tournaments and he did once again. He has video game like bounce and effortlessly gets off the ground and thunders it down way above the rim. He had a few posters in the 4 days and makes it look easy. He is making his move quicker and explodes up. He grabs every rebound in and out of his area and then he will go up to score. A lot of his points come that way. His FT stroke also is improving and his next step will be facing up more comfortably this season. He may avg a rare double-double in the AIA season. His stock is trending up.

[player_tooltip player_id="701246" first="Nathan" last="Calmese"] Mesquite

-A smooth scoring lead guard seems to glide around the court. He gets to any spot on the floor he wants. His deep 3pt shooting was on most of the weekend. He got to the FT line by being aggressive and grabbed out of area rebounds and blocked some shots. He is in full control on the court and is very shifty and fast with the ball in his hands. He uses the floater well and made some nice passes in traffic.

[player_tooltip player_id="701265" first="Ahamed" last="Mohamed"] Apollo

-A two-way PG showed off his skill and his on-ball defense. He moves his feet quick laterally and has fast hands. He made some nice passes in the games I viewed but he is a natural scorer. He has floater, the pull-up on a dime from mid-range and the catch-3. He also can blow by using his left or right hand to finish tough layups. He picked up his 1st D1 offer from Southern Utah yesterday.

[player_tooltip player_id="827008" first="Isaac" last="Garcia"] SoAZ Volz

-A long and lean forward is transforming his game more to the perimeter. You can see him fully become that bigger small forward in college. He is handling the ball more then ever and his shooting looks more polished. He is best off the catch from mid to the 3pt line and still stays active inside to rebound and score on put backs. His recruitment will be helped once he starts filling in and he is sneaky athletic to throw it down.

[player_tooltip player_id="1029812" first="Anderson" last="Wilson"] Phhoenix Prep

-A thick guard does anything needed for his team to win. He is extremely versatile from playing a little one and making the extra pass to scoring from all levels. He can use his tighter handle to get into the lane and score through contact. He can pull-up off the dribble and gets on the glass. He competes on defense and talks to his teammates on the court.

[player_tooltip player_id="701252" first="Michael" last="Dienes"] Rancho Solano Prep

-A developing forward who is getting more skilled and athletic as he ages. He threw down multiple dunks and hit difficult shots in traffic. He competes inside on defense to rebound and block shots. His 3pt stroke looked good and he is starting to put the ball on the floor more to score it.

[player_tooltip player_id="809693" first="Zach" last="Morgan"] SoAZ Volz

-A thick post player with soft hands and a nice shooting touch. He made a few deep 3's with confidence and works well inside. He uses his girth and strength to rebound and can dunk the ball fairly easily with power. He can score with his back to the basket but likes to face up from mid to the 3. He is currently undecided, but is leaning towards a post grad year to '22.

[player_tooltip player_id="996161" first="Lashy" last="Perez"] Apollo

-A smooth ball handler plays on or off the ball. He gets to the rack with a nice burst and will drive and kick it to an open teammate. He can finish off difficult layups in traffic and has a knack for getting to the FT line. He can shoot the 3 off the catch best but is starting to shoot it off the dribble as well. He was tough on defense collecting steals, getting deflections and rebounding the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id="1032529" first="Nate" last="Parras"] Arcadia

-The only other rising junior should have a huge year for the Titans. He plays from inside and out and handled the ball better then I thought he could. He played some play-maker role, scored it inside with his strength and long arms and hit multiple 3's. He is an above the rim athlete and he keeps adding a wrinkle or two to his game.
