Prep Hoops made the trip to San Francisco, CA for a Semifinal Open contest between host and 2 seed Riordan, and 3 seed St. Ignatius. Both teams are in the heart of the City by the bay. It was the third meeting between these two WCAL foes, the Crusaders winning both. It was a game that will be talked about for a while, and setting up a fierce inner city rival for the foreseeable future. SI knocked down a last second 3 point shot with 1.1 second left taking a 65-64 lead. A timeout by Riordan and a long inbounds pass resulted in a foul that sent Riordan to the line, and seal the deal with two made free throws. Final score Riordan 66, SI 65. Crusaders move on to the CCS Open Championship Game. Top players in this game.

Archbishop Riordan:

[player_tooltip player_id="947393" first="Mor" last="Seck"] 7’1 C of Archbishop Riordan 2022

Seck reclassified and went back to the c/o 2022 after initially moving to 2021. He was the player that knocked down two free throws to win the game. Throughout the game it became clear that 7’1 Seck is a good free throw shooter, he went 10/10 at the line. He still has work to do, but his post skills are rapidly improving. 18pts, 8 rebounds, 5 blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id="946524" first="Robert" last="Vaihola"] 6’8 F/C of Archbishop Riordan (Fresno State)

Vaihola is the closest player in NorCal to averaging a double-double. Along with his good inside/out game, he continually goes out and gives his team a chance to win whenever he’s on the court. His 12 rebounds, 10pts, 2 blocks were consistent to what he’s done all season long.

[player_tooltip player_id="1119277" first="Zion" last="Sensley"] 6’7 Wing of Archbishop Riordan 2024

Sensley is one of the top Freshman in the 2024 class. He made the rise through his progression on the court throughout this season. We’ve seen him play early in the season, and now late. He’s a calm player, that doesn’t get caught up in the moment. He’s long with good length to finish over most defenders. He moves well on the perimeter, and in transition. He has good range on his shot. 10pts.

[player_tooltip player_id="950742" first="King" last="Wilhite"] 6’1 CG of Archbishop Riordan 2023

Early on showed good patience picking, and choosing when to take his man off the dribble. The slick handled guard can get by most defenders when gets into scoring mode. He used a nice jumper in the key to score in this game, along with transition finishes around the rim. He had several key buckets during the game.12pts

[player_tooltip player_id="775775" first="Lee" last="Hubbard"] III PG of Archbishop Riordan 2021

Hubbard is reclassifying to the class of 2022 and is on his way to prep school. He’s been a consistent performer for the Crusaders all season long. The pass first point guard has improved his body, and his shot to add more balance to his game. In this game he was effective pushing the pace and finding teammates in transition, along with feeding the big men down in the post. 7pts.

Saint Ignatius:

Ryan Conroy CG/W 6’3 of Saint Ignatius 2022

He’s been a consistent player all season long for SI. He’s not the fastest, but has a solid body with decent handles to bob and weave his way along for points in and around the paint. In this game he was the teams leading scorer, spotting up for corner 3’s and weaving his way through Riordan’s size for points in the paint. 16pts,

[player_tooltip player_id="1113064" first="Rory" last="Kenneally"] 6’5 Forward of Saint Ignatius 2022

Kennally was the player that made the 3ptr with one second left that gave SI the lead. He’s an improving player with a solid body who runs the court, and will battle with the big men in the post. His foot work was good post, using savvy moves to get his shot off over Riordan’s size in the paint. 14pts.

Sean Quanico 6’1 Guard of Saint Ignatius 2022

Quanico a transfer from Riordan seamed to have extra motivation going up against his former teammates. He was aggressive on both ends of the court, playing tight defense on the ball handlers, and pushing the pace in transition finding open teammates. He was the games leader in assists with 6, 6pts, 2 stls.

Giancarlo Toledo 6’3 Shooting Guard of Saint Ignatius 2022

Toledo is a good shooter from the 3pt line. He started his scoring with a 3 from the wing. Riordan knows he’s a good shooter, and was very conscious not to drift too far away. He’s a good catch and shoot who’ll make most of his his shots. He dropped three 3’s in this contest to finish with 13pts.

[player_tooltip player_id="1116239" first="John" last="Squire"] 6’6 Forward of Saint Ignatius 2023

Squire is an up and coming prospect in this class. He put in a solid performance off the bench. He was aggressive going after rebounds, and defending size in the post. He ran the court well, showed he has 3pt range and was working to get his shot in the post area.
