The 2021 edition of the Rolling Hills Prep State Preview Classic was a scaled down version of the event that is a must-see for Southern California basketball fans. Colony high school hosted the four game, one-day event which featured many of SoCal’s top programs and top players. Below is a breakdown of the sophomore and freshman class standouts from the showcase.

[player_tooltip player_id="994955" first="Kollen" last="Murphy"], 2023, Colony - Murphy’s all-around performance was one of the more eye-popping efforts of the four-game slate. The 6-foot-3 guard showed every aspect of his game in a win over Chaminade, from scoring to assisting to defensive impact. The sophomore finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and four steals in a win and showed flashes of brilliance on the ball, making us believe that the lead guard position is in good hands when [player_tooltip player_id="680216" first="Brenton" last="Knapper"] graduates. Murphy has great open court speed, quickness when anticipating and shooting passing lanes for steals and continues to improve his ball skills and decision-making.

Jimmy Oladokun, 2023, Damien - Oladokun is one of the brightest young big men in Southern California. His combination of size, length, and fluid athleticism, combined with his great hands, ability to change ends of the floor in transition, and score in a variety of ways, makes him one of the more intriguing prospects in the area. The 6-foot-8 forward finishes with 16 points and a handful of blocks in Damien’s win.

Trent Perry, 2024, Harvard-Westlake - Perry is a quick and feisty young point guard who has shown flashes of long-term upside throughout is freshman season. The 6-foot-2 prospect has a tight handle on the ball, knocks down catch-and-shoot three-pointers with range and plays with decent pace and change of speeds at this early stage of his development.

[player_tooltip player_id="997945" first="Jaidyn" last="Simpson"], Colony - Simpson falls into that “positionless” category of new-age basketball based on the fact that he impacts every aspect of the game at 6-feet-3. The sophomore can play positions 1-4 due to his versatile skill set to go along with his physicality and explosiveness. Simpson scored a team-high 19 points in Colony’s win over Chaminade and made a number of clutch defensive plays and grabbed timely offensive and defensive rebounds.
