The fans, players, and coaches all brought intense, electric energy throughout the weekend. The competition on the court was stiff for all ages, from 11U up to 14U and teams fought tough and nail to leave this tournament on top. Here we’ll take a look at the most dangerous shooters from the 11U bracket.
| Beckham Hopkins | Shooting Guard | Texas Summitt 2028 |
This sharpshooting guard let it fly with confidence. Beckham Hopkins nailed 4 three-pointers against Southern Assault to help push his team into the championship round where he then continued his success from the perimeter. Hopkins proved to be an excellent spot-up shooter, he moved very well off the ball and showed impressive shooting efficiency for his age and the distance that he shoots from. This kid already has lethal range, often shooting his shot from well beyond the arc effortlessly, with the ball flowing right off of his hands.
| Mike Sorrell | Shooting Guard | Southern Assault 2028 |
Mike Sorrell quickly stood out during warm-ups as he showed off his shooting expertise, knocking down jumpshots with ease from each side of the floor. The Southern Assault guard demonstrated an instinctual scoring ability, consistently taking what the defense gave him and making the most out of it. This bucket getter was just as good shooting off the catch as he was off the dribble, but Sorrell really excelled when he was able to get to his spots in the mid-range and put his shot up in a single fluid motion off the dribble. Mike Sorrell also displayed a clutch gene, he wanted the ball in the biggest moments of the game and when the team needed a bucket the most. He came up successful on a number of occasions, when competing for third place this guard hit a clutch corner three-pointer that gave Southern Assault a 1 point lead with time winding down on the clock. On the very next possession, Sorrell went to the foul line with the crowd roaring and he nailed 2 free-throws with all of the poise in the world, putting his team up by 3 points and sealing the victory. Mike Sorrell is a name to remember, this kid has an abundance of potential.
| Marcus Boid | Point Guard | Team Ferrari |
This score-first guard continuously kept defenses on their heels with his constant change of gears, directions, and his ability to stop on a dime for a jumper. Boid ran the point guard position well, keeping his head high, looking for open teammates or openings in the lane at all times. He created his own shot off the dribble, but didn’t force anything. Boid proved to have several hot spots in the mid-range area but he always looked to go toward the basket before settling for a jumpshot. Anytime Marcus spotted a crack in the defense, he attacked, and quickly went up with his desired shot, often taking his defender off the baseline and completing the play with a soft-touch floater that seemed practically automatic from both sides of the basket. Great body control, mechanics, as well as good form and posture anytime he finished with his signature floater. Marcus Boid held his own as the go-to scorer and shooter for his squad, nearly leading Team Ferrari into third place.
| Keller Tarp | Shooting Guard | We R One 2028 |
Keller Tarp stood out as one of the top shooting specialists of the 11U division, he’s already displaying great mechanics with his textbook jumpshot, the rotation he put on the ball, the lift he got off the ground, and his form were perfect as well as his follow-through. This kid put such a great touch and spin on his shots that he even made a fallaway jumpshot with his off-hand. Tarp also loved to shoot runners and he used it well to his advantage, giving him the opportunity to quickly get a shot up over taller players when near the lane. A true shooter’s instinct, this shooting guard even utilized the pump fake and pound like a pro, making it clear that he spends a lot of time mastering the basics of jumpshooting. Another thing to take note of is his ball-handling, Tarp has these quick fast-twitch muscles that allowed him to have phenomenal control of the rock. Keller Tarp’s potential as a shooter is as great as anyone, at any age, from this event.
| Drake Chatman | Shooting Guard/Forward | Texas Summitt 2028 |
This shooting specialist did most of his damage off the ball as a spot-up shooter, particularly in the corner where he burnt teams all day long. Any time the opposing teams came near taking a lead, Chatman seemed to hit a dagger three-pointer that was tough to overcome. Highly prolific, proficient, and efficient from the corners of the floor, his ability to knock down outside shots made him a huge threat when Texas Summitt attempted to space the floor out. Drake Chatman was a key piece to his team going 4-0 on the weekend and taking home the Southwest Region Finals Championship.
