With 31 top clubs from across the Midwest gathered to do battle, there were countless good performances deserving recognition. But over two days, a handful of players stood out.

[player_tooltip player_id="889456" first="Antwaun" last="Massey"] stood out physically as the most impressive player in the event. But he wasn’t necessarily the best player on his dominant KC Spurs team, and besides, he’s a 2021 grad who has reclassified for 2022. So we’ll leave him out of the consideration for tournament honors, as well as 2021 grads Joshua Symonette and [player_tooltip player_id="889464" first="Will" last="Townsend"], who were very good in their own right.

Here is the Midwest Grind Session 17U All Star Team (in alphabetical order):

First Team:

[player_tooltip player_id="891908" first="Jameer" last="Clemons"], 2022, 5-foot-10 guard, Midwest Magic – Hernandez, Derby HS:

The point guard for the Magic was incredibly competitive on breakaways to the rim. He met bigger, taller players at the hoop and thwarted numerous shots over the weekend. His leaping ability is matched by his compettive fire. He refuses to give up on a play, or a game. He led his club to a great weekend, which culminated in taking the dominant KC Spurs Black to the wire. Clemons scored 17 points against that stacked opponent.

Jaylen Peeler, 2022, 5-foot-11 guard, KC Spurs Black, Center HS:

The Spurs were guided by two dynamic guards, and you could just as easily put [player_tooltip player_id="991576" first="I’Ryan" last="Allen"] of Raymore-Peculiar in this spot. But Peeler gets the nod because he was consistent and versatile throughout the weekend. He’s got great handle, can shoot and create his own shots, and also fed the ball to teammates effectively.

Demetrius Sharp, 2022, 5-foot-10 guard, Iron Sharpens Iron, Lake Hamilton HS:

The small Arkansas guard was consistently good leading a tough club. He is a competitor who can get to the goal or score on runners and jumpers in the lane. He consistently led his team in scoring and to several wins on the weekend. He plays like defense wins games. He crashes the boards, leads the break, and unselfishly feeds his teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id="984943" first="Kortez" last="Stevenson"], 2022, 6-foot-6 forward, KC Spurs Black, Center HS (pictured):

The KC Spurs Black put together a highlight reel over the weekend, but Stevenson stood out for doing the little things. Rebounding, defending in the lane and on the perimeter, and fighting for loose balls, Stevenson was solid, consistent and fundamental throughout the weekend. He brings a lot of size and power, but he also has soft hands, good touch and a lot of skill.

[player_tooltip player_id="891900" first="Fontaine" last="Williams"], 2022, 6-foot-1 guard, Kansas Players, Derby HS:

Williams has every move in the book. He breaks defenders ankles with his start and stop, his crossover, his spin dribble. Once he gets even with a defender, it’s over. He’s a highly competitive guy who attacks defenses and can get shots off seemingly at will. He scores at three levels and defends with instinct and intensity.

Second Team:

[player_tooltip player_id="891913" first="Jaron" last="Briggs"], 2022, 6-foot-3 forward, KC Spurs Black, Piper HS

[player_tooltip player_id="963194" first="Arzhonte" last="Dallas"], 2022, 5-foot-11 guard, Oklahoma Chaos, Lawton MacArthur HS

[player_tooltip player_id="1075931" first="Jace" last="Linenberger"], 2022 6-foot-6 forward, Midwest Magic – Hernandez, Hays HS

[player_tooltip player_id="745376" first="James" last="Locke"], 2022, 6-foot-4 guard, Team Buddy Buckets OKC, Carl Albert HS

Tony Smith, 2022 5-foot-8 guard, Midwest Magic – Resa, Wichita Southeast HS:

Third Team:

[player_tooltip player_id="958390" first="Anthony" last="Allen"], 2022, 6-foot-5 forward, Tulsa Hawks, Broken Arrow HS

[player_tooltip player_id="889508" first="Ty" last="Henry"], 2022, 6-foot-3 guard, Kansas Hoggs, Seaman HS

Will Keech, 2022, 6-foot-2 guard, KC Spurs Silver, Olathe East HS

[player_tooltip player_id="1164871" first="Noah" last="McMullan"], 2022, 5-foot-9 guard, Next Level Oklahoma, North Rock Creek HS

Terrence Tedder, 2022, 6-foot guard, SSA Hoops Elite White, Junction City HS
