Prep Hoops was at De La Salle to see the top ranked team in NorCal Campolindo take on the Spartans. Campo is playing good basketball despite missing NorCal’s top 2022 prospect [player_tooltip player_id="766840" first="Aidan" last="Mahaney"]. This group at Campo has a good understanding, and know how to play this game. The road team was in command in the first half 27-14. De La Salle tightened up it’s defense, and started to make shots to claw their way back into the game, after 3 qtrs down 39-37. Campo maintained it’s composure, withstood the comeback, and prevailed on an exciting last second deep 3 by [player_tooltip player_id="1118939" first="Cade" last="Bennett"] with 2 seconds left to win 56-53. Here’s our take.

Outstanding Player in The Game:

[player_tooltip player_id="1118939" first="Cade" last="Bennett"] 6’0 PG of Campolindo. Not many players benefiited from the Summer, and the Covid situation like Bennett. He’s put himself on the radar, and raised his stock with his play. In this game it was no different. He had the hot hand early and late, knocking down four 3’s before halftime, and drilling the game winner with 2 seconds left on the clock. six 3’s, 25pts, and the game winner.

Top Prospect:

[player_tooltip player_id="711697" first="Chris" last="Bunch"] 6’7 W/F De La Salle 2022. He didn’t fill up the stat sheet with points in this game, but he did help cut into Campo’s lead in the 2nd half with his aggressive play on defense. He had 4 blocks including a chase down. At 6’7 with a long reach he hauled in key rebounds, led the transition break, and found open shooters on the penetrate and kick. 11 pts, 4rebs, 4blks.

Rising Sophomore:

Shane O"reilly 6’4 G of Campolindo 2023. He started in place of Mahaney, he wasted no time in making his presence felt on the court. A solid player with good fundamentals, his hard cuts, and movement without the ball resulted in a few easy baskets. He’s a good ball mover on the perimeter, he’s an aware defender with good help. He’ll be most remembered in this game for knocking down three 3’s. 11pts.

Most Improved:

[player_tooltip player_id="775782" first="Christian" last="Carter"] 6’1 CG Unsigned Senior. A tough physical player with the body to play that way. Carter was a big time contributor in this game. He made several hard driving reverse buckets to keep his team in the game late. His ball movement, solid passing, and aggressive style of play on both ends was noticeable in the comeback. He led the Spartans in scoring with 11pts.

Underrated:

[player_tooltip player_id="1128058" first="Chase" last="Bennett"] 5’9 G of Campolindo Unsigned Senior. The elder Bennett like his brother have made good improvement. He’s feisty defender, and is always on go. Solid handles, he pushes hard in transition, and will find the open man. He’ll sprint to a spot in transition and knock down a 3 with his improved long distance shooting. He’ll penetrate and kick it out to open shooters. 7pts, 3rebs, 3stls.

Best Player Off The Bench:

[player_tooltip player_id="775761" first="Miles" last="Daniels"] 6’1 PG of De La Salle. The Chico State commit seems to be easing his way back into the flow. He came off the bench in this game, nevertheless he showed why he’s a next level player. He’s athletic, his rise on the pull up in the paint was impressive, with the soft touch high off the glass. The lefty has that burst to go by most defenders. He’s speedy with the ball in the open court, his vision, and passing was on point. 9pts 6asts.
