It was a low scoring scoring contest with the Bells leading 9-7 after the 1st qtr. The Bells led going into each quarter of the game. The Bells put together a good game plan, and made adjustments from Thursdays game which Mitty won by 21pts. It was a tough battle as all WCAL games can be on the opposing teams home court, but Mitty prevailed taking the lead with just minutes left in the game to pull out a 55-53 victory on the road. Here’s a few observations of the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="706270" first="Mike" last="Mitchell"] 6’2 Guard of Archbishop Mitty is playing at a high level. The Pepperdine commit is leading the Monarchs in scoring and assists. He got off to a slow start but got things going in the 2nd half with two 3pt shots at the beginning of the half. Keeping the Monarchs within striking distance throughout the contest with his facilitating and intensity on the defensive side of the ball. He took matters into his own hands in the 4th when Mitty made it’s push to take over the game. He had two long 3’s and key basket to score 12pts in the 4th qtr, and 23 pts to lead all scorers in the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="946527" first="Ryan" last="Kiachian"] 6’10 PF/C of The Bellarmine Bells Put on a dazzling performance going up against a front line that goes 6’6, 6’9, and 6’7 across the board. The Cornell commit was dominant at times, with 4 monster put back dunks quite impressive. His attitude was I own the paint in this game. 18pts, 8 rebs, 2 blocks. His post work is becoming high level.

[player_tooltip player_id="947860" first="Josh" last="Wolf-Bloom"] 6’4 Point Forward of The Bellarmine Bells Unsigned Senior. Wolf-bloom in his final season of high school hoops is finally getting the opportunity to play his true position. He’s a facilitator with excellent vision, and passing skills. He’s not going to be a primary scorer, but he will score on put backs, nice driving spin moves to the basket, and an improved jump shot out to the 3. He’s a versatile player who’ll deliver a pass, key bucket, or rebound late in the game. 7pts 4rebs, 3stls, 3asts.

[player_tooltip player_id="775753" first="Nigel" last="Burris"] 6’7 W/F of Archbishop Mitty. He’s proving to be a nightmare of a match up for most teams. His versatility and skill set allows him to play inside and out depending on the situation of the game. Most teams don’t have a front line averaging 6’7 across the board. He can use his handles on the perimeter to drive into the paint, or he can post up using his strength to score. He’s a good passer, and will hit the boards. 11pts, 5rebs, 2asts, 2stls.

[player_tooltip player_id="950938" first="Derek" last="Sangster"] 6’6 F of Archbishop Mitty 2023. He was the first player off the bench for Mitty. He’s an improving player in his 2023 class. He’s active going after rebounds, he has the length on defense to effect shots on close outs or inside. He’s comfortable playing out on the wings. He has 3pt range, and scored a couple of buckets around the basket. He’s making a contribution when he’s on the court. A rising player 2023 class. 8pts.
