Valley Christian vs Sobrato Observations

Prep Hoops was up on the hill at Valley Christian HS in San Jose, Ca to take in a contest between Valley Christian, and Sobrato. It was Valleys first game of the season while Sobrato has played 3 or 4. It was a close contest throughout, Sobrato hanging tough with good guard play, and Valley playing it’s first game was searching for the right fit. The half time score VCS 26, Sobrato 25. It would remain a close game throughout the third, and Valley did manage to separate with a good 4th qtr. Final score Valley 62 Sobrato 52. The key players in this game. [player_tooltip player_id="1129721" first="Pawllos" last="Habtom"] 6’3 Guard of Valley Christian HS 2021: He set the tone and the pace early on for Valley. He’s doing most of the ball handling. The 6’3 combo guard did a good job with the ball in his hands for most of the contest. Habtom has good speed, and quickness with it, he has a good first step on the drive, and he looks to involve teammates early on. He’s improved his overall game and will be a key contributor to this team. 11 pts, 5 rebs. [player_tooltip player_id="1119284" first="Marcus" last="Washington"] 6’5 Forward of Valley Christian HS 2024: The Freshman made his long awaited debut on the Varsity squad, he did not disappoint, it was our first look at the young prospect who we’ll get used to hearing about. He started the second half and stayed on the court the rest of the game. He was a big lift to a team searching for the right pieces. Washington went 6/6 on his shots. The strong long armed lefty hauled in key rebounds, changed some shots, and had good activity inside, he ran the court. He’s one to keep an eye on. 12pts Will Hook 6’5 Forward of Valley Christian HS 2022: Hook was also a key contributor for Valley after being inserted into the game, he went to work on the inside. He showed a determination to be an effective scorer inside. His pump fake was effective, a good drop step, and was effective from the high post. A solid body willing to mix it up inside. 13pts. [player_tooltip player_id="1114847" first="Shea" last="Mattox"] 5’9 Combo guard of Valley Christian HS 2023: Mattox made his varsity debut in the starting line up. He’s a hard playing guard, with plenty of hustle to his game. He pushes, and passes the ball up court, and will defend to the end. He’s strong with good lateral movement to stay in front of ball handlers, and hound them. His mid-range shot is good. He has a good work ethic and will continue to improve. 4pts [player_tooltip player_id="1119287" first="Pasha" last="Goodarzi"] 6’2 Shooting Guard of Valley Christian HS 2023: He has a good looking shot from 3pt land that goes in. Too early for shooter label, but we get the feeling that he’s going to be knocking down shots from 3 at a good rate. He was productive in other areas as well, a good help defender, he made good passes, ran the court. He made both of his 3’s, he finished with 12pts. Andrew Zorio 5’10 PG of Sobrato HS 2023: He has good handles, and quickness, showed patience, and a good understanding of how the offense should be run. He has good quickness, and vision in the open court, and can find open teammates with good passing. He’ll use the floater once inside. 12pts Jayden Fowler 5’10 Guard of Sobrato HS 2022: This player had a good showing in this game, he was instrumental in keeping Sobrato in the game with his scoring. He was a big time contributor off the bench. He’s grown a bit since we last saw him. He’s has a good shot from 3, he handles, and runs the court filling lanes for transition baskets. He had two early 3’s to finish with a team high 15pts.
