There were over 400 teams placed in 13 divisions, which included an Open division, 17u, 16u, and 15u that had a variety of divisions within those groups. Also, 112 college coaches attended the event with even more watching online. This tournament was loaded with talented young men from all over the country, with a few international teams traveling to the East Coast for this event. Not only were spectators present to cheer on their own children, but with Pittsburgh not having a professional basketball team, other fans come out to watch the outstanding display or amateur basketball. In my estimation, thousands of individuals were filling the venue for this three-day extravaganza.
A good amount of Western Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh area basketball teams participated in the Pitt Jam Fest trying to compete at a high level with some of the top teams, some of which were sponsored by NBA players. We begin our coverage with one of the top AAU organizations in the area, PK Flash. They have talent at every level on their teams and the PKFlash group does an excellent job at promoting each player within the organization.
PK Flash Top Players from this weekend…
Devin Carney Devin Carney 6'1" | CG Butler | 2022 State PA , Butler High School, Class of 2022
- Only listed at 6’0, this point guard is not only explosive to the rim but has a deadly long-range perimeter shot to compliment his overall skill set. One of the top players in the state, Devin holds multiple division 1 college offers. Look for this young man to garner more interest this spring/summer.
Gavin Cote, Peters Township High School, Class of 2022
- This 6’5 combo guard has all of the skills needed to play at the next level. He can create his own shot, moves well without the ball, passes with precision, and runs the floor always looking to make a play for his team. Also, Gavin can score in a variety of ways and shoots extremely well from the foul line.
Dolan Waldo, Bethel Park High School, Class of 2022
- A big man who dominates the post with his size at 6’7 190lbs. He is an excellent rebounder on the glass, both on the offensive and defensive end of the floor. Dolan has a nice mid-range jump shot, which creates a match-up problem for opponents if they get his off the block.
Ryan Lang Ryan Lang 6'2" | CG Knoch | 2022 State PA , Knoch High School, Class of 2022
- One of the top high school scorers as a 6’1 guard this season with a knock-down three-point game. He has developed into a completed basketball player with a high IQ. Ryan has been described by many coaches as an extension of the staff, with his ability to be a coach on the floor for his team.
Joe Scott, Lincoln Park Performing Arts High School, Class of 2022
- At 6’7 this lanky, athletic forward plays above the rim. His ability to block shots and create transition baskets are definite strengths of his game. Joe has the quickness and explosiveness to be a difference-maker on the offensive end as well. Look for his stock to rise in the coming months playing in this high-quality organization.
Langston Moses Langston Moses 6'3" | SF Pittsburgh Central Catholic | 2022 State PA , Central Catholic High School, Class of 2022
- A 6’3, 220lbs guard/forward has the strength to post up smaller guards, while still having the skill to make plays on the perimeter as well. He rebounds at a high level and his court vision is outstanding, which separates him from many other players in his position. Langston might have the build of a football player, but his basketball skills are top-notch.
Luke Shanahan, Pine Richland High School, Class of 2022
- This skilled 6’4, 190lbs forward has all the attributes to become a great high school basketball player by the time his career comes to an end. His positive attitude and hard work ethic make him a standout in every sense of the word. Luke can score on the inside with consistency and has worked on developing a quality mid-range/perimeter game.
Landon Butler, Latrobe High School, Class of 2023
- A combo guard who stands a 6’3 creates problems for defenses every time he steps on the court. His talent level is extremely balanced and is a well-rounded player. Landon always has the mindset to make the right play, not the flashy play, and strives to be the consummate team guy.
Luke Lawson, Seneca Valley High School, Class of 2023
- This athletically solid 6’3, 200lbs forward always looks to make his teammates better during a game. He can score from a variety of spots on the floor. Luke plays up at times on the 17u team when needed, which proves his ability to step into the spotlight on a higher-level team.
Brendan McCullough, Peters Township High School, Class of 2023
- A point guard who can create opportunities not only for himself but for his teammates. He has a quick first step and his passing skills are outstanding. Brendan has a high basketball IQ and is a proven leader on the floor. Look for this young man to continue his development in the next two years.
If you were unable to watch these boys play this past weekend, please check them out this spring/summer. PK Flash has a great group of kids who have formed a unity on and off the floor. A class organization from the top-down…
