Teams traveled far and wide to be a part of something special, filling up 3 different arenas and 28 courts all at once. The best grassroots basketball clubs as well as some of the top-ranked players in the nation showed up, showed out, and made this weekend in Kansas City worthwhile. Every type of prospect a college coach could possibly be in search of was in attendance, multiple 7-foot centers, next-level scorers, remarkable shooters, high flying dunkers, lockdown defenders, dime droppers, shot blockers, you name it, we had it. Here we’ll take a look at a few of the most unbelievable 16U sharpshooters that really stood out and made a noticeable impact on the floor.
Garrett Nuckolls Garrett Nuckolls 6'5" | SG Bullard | 2023 State TX – Shooting Guard – Texas Impact 4:13 UAA
Garrett Nuckolls Garrett Nuckolls 6'5" | SG Bullard | 2023 State TX is the type of player that you can plug into any system and he’ll succeed due to his size and offensive versatility, he can be your primary scorer or your lights-out, three-point specialist. Nuckolls has the creativity to get his own shot off the bounce as well as get open from beyond the arc using screens or his court vision. His shot-making was something you just can’t help but marvel at, Garrett was pulling up from beyond college range with ease and his defender never saw it coming no matter how many times he did it. You must have a hand up in Nuckolls face as soon as he crosses half court or he is going to pull-up for the shot, range is no factor for him. This kid has the green light to put one up whenever he pleases, high IQ shot taker, and incredibly efficient. Garrett might’ve just proved to be the best all-around shooter in the state of his class, the ultimate marksman, even when given the tiniest bit of space he still got the shot up and in. His shooting was something you had to see to believe, on the final day of play he put up 17 points off 4 three-pointers, and 25 points, with 7 three-pointers in back-to-back games. I think it’s safe to say that Garrett Nuckolls Garrett Nuckolls 6'5" | SG Bullard | 2023 State TX is on his way to becoming one of the most sought after 2023 prospects around.
Jack Janicki Jack Janicki 6'4" | SG White Bear Lake | 2023 State #277 Nation MN – Shooting Guard – D1 Minnesota (Harris)
Jack Janicki Jack Janicki 6'4" | SG White Bear Lake | 2023 State #277 Nation MN , lefty deadeye sniper, was absolutely on fire from beyond the arc, knocking down multiple three-pointers in each game. Janicki did it all from the perimeter, he came off of screens, got buckets off the give and go, hit shots off quick catch and shoot opportunities, Jack was deadly when spotting up, and crucial when pulling up off the dribble. His stroke was beautiful and his form was perfect, Jack had one of the quickest and purest releases in the entire building. Perfect elevation and balance, there was no blocking his shot, Janicki got his jumpers over the best defender and shot blockers that came his way. He got his feet set extremely quickly, Jack’s footwork when coming off of screens, popping out, and stopping on a dime was phenomenal. Jack Janicki Jack Janicki 6'4" | SG White Bear Lake | 2023 State #277 Nation MN was one of, if not the best, shooting weapon you could possibly ask for.
Grant Rein Grant Rein 6'0" | SG Grapevine Faith Christian | 2023 State TX – Shooting Guard – Texas Impact 4:13 AE
Yet another weekend of Grant Rein Grant Rein 6'0" | SG Grapevine Faith Christian | 2023 State TX putting his shooting prowess on full display for the Prep Hoops Circuit audience. Rein put up point totals of 23, 22, 19, and 16 point performances averaging 20 points per game throughout the weekend while showing off his shooting efficiency from the three-point range as well as the free-throw line, where he was money in the bank, near excellent and even knocking down 10-of-11 in his first game. Consistent shooting form, good efficiency, Grant makes every shot count, he never takes a shot he doesn’t believe will fall. This Texas Impact guard continues to prove why he’s one of the most elite shooting specialists in the state of Texas.
Michael Spear – Shooting Guard – Team Teague 2023 (Collins)
This 6-foot-2-inch sharpshooter had the green light from the jump, starting his weekend off at a high point when dropping 15 points off 5 three-pointers, 3 of them coming in the first half of play in his very first game. Spear even nailed his first 2 shots from beyond the arc from the exact same spot, the right-wing, which seemed like his hot spot. The best thing about Michael was that he didn’t need many if any shots to catch fire, anytime he caught the rock in rhythm and had a slight bit of space he was a threat to make the shot. Spear was always willing and ready to let one fly no matter how deep he was, he shot the ball with a confidence that any shot beyond the arc was his shot. Michael Spear changed games with his shooting expertise, just a pure, lights-out jump shooter that can really send chills down a defender’s back.
Ben Kopetzki Ben Kopetzki 6'0" | PG Andover | 2023 State MN – Shooting Guard – Minnesota Fury
Ben Kopetzki Ben Kopetzki 6'0" | PG Andover | 2023 State MN proved to be an incredibly impressive catch and shoot player and he lit the gym on fire with his shooting from outside. Kopetzki nailed jumpers from all around the arc, getting the ball up and out of his hands in a single, quick, fluid motion. Anytime his teammates penetrated the lane they looked to kick it out to him for a deep one and they often came up successful, especially when Ben caught fire, he just couldn’t miss. This kid was amazing at leaking out and finding openings from outside, particularly in the deep corners of the court. Ben Kopetzki Ben Kopetzki 6'0" | PG Andover | 2023 State MN ’s shooting display was a sight to behold and something most defenses didn’t see coming until it was too late.
