Top Guards Remaining: State 6A

<p>The 6A lineup of guard play was top notch, and after the first set of games we saw the likes of top ranked guards such as [player_tooltip player_id="730611" first="Alston" last="Mason"], [player_tooltip player_id="889454" first="Jack" last="Chapman"], and [player_tooltip player_id="891904" first="Damare" last="Smith"] get knocked out with each having tremendous seasons for their teams. Let’s look at the best of who’s left.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="599752" first="Zeke" last="Mayo"], 6’3 Guard, 2021, Lawrence (Pictured): Making the play of the game, sliding over to take a charge on Mason with the opening round of the state playoffs game on the line, Mayo continued to show why he is primed for a tremendous college career after this playoff run is over. He also dropped 27 points in the ball game that followed up his 19 points in the sub state championship win over the weekend.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="889473" first="Luke" last="Adams"], 5’11 Point Guard, 2021, Blue Valley North: BVN is really solid all across the board in its guard rotation, but we will focus on the steady hand at point guard [player_tooltip player_id="889473" first="Luke" last="Adams"]. He is really poised with the ball in his hands and is an elite 3 point shooter. He has the mental make up to be great in down the stretch and can knock down big time shots when the lights shine the brightest.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="889487" first="Isaac" last="Patterson"], 6’5 Wing, 2021, Blue Valley North: Our wing on this list, Patterson has the tools and ability to play multiple positions on the floor. He is tremendous when having to play some guard duty. He is an extremely smart basketball player with the talent to make him a versatile weapon. He can shoot the ball on catch and shoot or off the move, make plays off the dribble for himself or his teammates, and he is tremendous in transition leading the break or running his lane.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="730616" first="Sterling" last="Chapman"], 6’5 Guard, 2021, Campus: Campus’s all time leading scorer is a strong, athletic 2 guard who is really tough to stop in transition and when he gets going down hill. He is also great at running wings and becoming a nice target for the other Campus guards to hit and capitalize in transition. The Campus guard is averaging an incredible 19 points and 12 rebounds per game.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="824114" first="Stevie" last="Strong Jr"], 6’1 Point Guard, 2021, Campus: The other member of the incredible Campus back court, Strong is the big time playmaker of the bunch. He is averaging nearly 18 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds while being a havoc on the defensive end averaging nearly 3 steals per game. He can create all sorts of separation off the dribble whether attacking in the paint of stepping back on jump shots off the bounce.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="891899" first="Mozae" last="Downing-Rivers"], 6’4 Point Guard, 2022, Free State: The Free State point guard is everything your team would want in a floor general. He commands the offense really well, gets his teammates involved, and can go get his especially up at the rim. Downing is also tremendous on the defensive end of the floor, on the ball guarding or playing in help. His playmaking ability is top tier in the state of Kansas and he can really cause a lot of problems for opposing defenses on the floor.</p>
