Continue ReadingObviously the Covid-19 pandemic had a negative impact on recruiting for Pennsylvania’s Class of 2021. Last March, the PIAA state basketball tournament was halted. Then the spring grassroots circuit was canceled. Summer and Fall 2020 presented a very limited AAU scene. This winter, the 2020-21 high school basketball season was first delayed, and then shortened. The result of a year’s worth of limited exposure for current seniors is that suburban Philadelphia’s Class of 2021 still holds a slew of high level prospects who remain uncommitted.
Today we take a look a Part I in our list of 2021 prospects from the Philly suburbs who have yet to decide where they will play at the next level.
Matt Compas Matt Compas 6'3" | CG Wissahickon | 2021 State PA – 6’1” / Senior / Wissahickon / Combo Guard: Compas is a two-time 1st team All Suburban One League (American Conference) selection, a 2020 Competitive Edge Fall League All-Star and a 1,000 point career scorer, so we’re not sure what else is left to say about this elite guard. Compas is an athletic, explosive, slasher type prospect who can really score the ball. Compas plays with a ton of energy and extra spring in his legs. When you walk in the gym, you notice that Compas is a ridiculous athlete who plays above the rim. After you watch him play multiple times, one can see that Compas excels in transition, but also owns enough skills to score off isolation play in the half-court. He will not hesitate to flush the ball with authority in traffic. This winter Compas averaged 23.1 points per game while shooting 51.8% from the floor. He posted numerous games of 30 points or more. In 2020-21 this slippery combo guard also led his team in assists, steals, and rebounds. His offensive output is complimented nicely by the fact that Compas is an excellent on ball defender. Compas has told me he is hearing from a number of schools including Millersville, Marywood and Lincoln.
Sam Davison – 5’10’’ / Senior / Lower Merion / Combo Guard:After missing his junior season in order to rehab a torn ACL, Davison returned to the lineup this winter and had an outstanding senior year as a perimeter threat and defensive menace for the Aces. Davison is a very complete player who rebounds well for size; owns excellent court vision and enough handles that he can play point guard if needed. One LM assistant coach described Davison as an “absolute animal”. As the 2nd/3rd option in LM’s offense, Davison averaged 11 ppg. during the regular season, but teh combo guard took his game to the next level on the post-season stage. In the District 1-6A tournament, Davison averaged 15 points per night and helped push LM to their first District 1 title since the Kobe Bryant era. This winter Davison recorded several 18 point games as well as a 17 point effort (including 6 for 6 from the charity stripe in the 4th quarter) in a win over Garnet Valley. However it was his stat line of 13 points; 8 dimes and 4 steals in the D1-6A championship game win over Abington that provides a better picture of how valuable of a player Davison was for LM this year.
Anquan Hill Anquan Hill 6'8" | PF Archbishop Carroll | 2021 State PA – 6’5’’ / Senior / Archbishop Carroll / Forward: A long and lean athlete with serious hops, Hill is a shot blocking machine. He has shown the ability to protect the rim in the half-court or via the chase down block. At the other end, he owns the offensive glass and can put-back flush over defenders with authority. Hill can also fill the lane on the fast break and finish above the rim. This winter he displayed an improved jump shot out to 17/18 feet. After posting 17.4 ppg.; 9.4 rpg.; and 2 bpg. while shooting 50% from the field this season, Hill was selected as a 2020-21 2nd Team All-Philly Catholic League player. Hill had several tremendous runs this winter including: 25 points (3 threes) in the PIAA District 12 Class 4A title win over Martin Luther King; 17 points, 9 rebounds and 7 blocks vs. Allentown Central Catholic; and 19 points vs. Archbishop Wood. Hill holds offers from a number of DI schools including Saint Joe’s and Drexel.
Justin Langan – 6’2’’/ Senior / Garnet Valley / Small Forward: Langan’s smooth outside shooting was a constant for Garnet Valley (Central League champions and District 1-6A semifinalists) this winter. Unofficial data determined that Langan splashed home 3 or more treys in seven contests this season. Officially Langan hit from behind the arc at a 40% clip. In 2020-21 Langan also premiered an improved mid-range game which allowed him to be an effective scoring and distribution weapon from the high post. This winter Langan (14 ppg.) helped GV to a 14-3 regular season record as well as a 10 game win streak that stretched from the end of the regular season through the Central League playoffs and into District 1-6A play. Langan’s high scoring game of this season came when he posted 21 points in a win over Springfield (Delco). He also tallied 17 points (3 threes) in a District 1-6A tourney win over Upper Dublin.
Jevin Muniz – 6’5’’/ Senior / Executive Education AC / Wing: Back in December 2020 of this Covid impacted season, Muniz made social media headlines by dropping 60 total points across a double-header event vs. Muhlenberg Township. That incredible 2-games-in-the-same-night feat tipped off a tremendous year for this wing player with elite shooting skills. In addition to knocking down threes, Muniz can get out in transition for buckets and boasts solid enough handles that he frequently plays a point-forward role for the EEAC Raptors. Muniz scored 1,512 points in his career and this winter led the Raptors to their third straight District 11 championship (this year at 3A) as well as to PIAA 3A state quarterfinals. Muniz’s senior year highlights are simply ridiculous: 33 points in a victory over Notre Dame-Green Pond; 28 points in D11-3A title game win; a 26/9/6 stat line in a win over Nativity; and a 24-point effort that included five 3-pointers in a PIAA state tourney quarterfinal loss to Loyalsock. A number of DI schools have expressed interest in Muniz and we expect that list to grow over the coming weeks.
Part II in this uncommitted 2021s series will be posted in the next couple of days.
